The city championships are a huge event in the city of Memphis and this year was no exception.
Class A
BTW 72
Westwood 65
Martavious Newby (BTW) scored 23 points and garnered game MVP honors helping lift the Warriors to another hard fought 72-65 decision over district runner-up Westwood.
Newby got plenty of help in the scoring column from dynamic freshman Khalil Spencer (BTW), who finished with 21 points.
Montreaz Gary (Westwood) led the Longhorns with 19 while Devonte Gary (Westwood) chipped in with 17 of his own.
Class AA
Sheffield 56
Raleigh-Egypt 45
Broderick Davis (Sheffield) scored 17 points lifting the Knights past Raleigh-Egypt in the Class AA city championship game.
Billy Rosenburg (Raleigh-Egypt) led all scorers with 18 points in the loss.
Class AAA
Ridgeway 83
Melrose 79
Adam Weary (Ridgeway) and Cameron Golden (Rdigeway) scored 24 and 18 respectively leading the Roadrunners to a narrow victory over Melrose to give Ridgeway the city championship in Class AAA.
The Roadrunners fresh off a district battle and victory over #1 ranked Southwind got the fight of their lives from the Golden Wildcats.
Melrose cut the lead to a single digit late in the game on a bucket from Kenneth Goodwin (Melrose) but could not hold on as the Roadrunners captured the win.
Goodwin finished with 24 points for Melrose. Markel Crawford (Melrose) added 18 in the tough loss.
