Oak Hill Academy too much for Melrose at Battle of the Best

A nice crowd assembled at the Gentry Center on the campus of Tennessee State University to watch an exciting battle between perennial high school power Oak Hill Academy and the Sporting News anointed #1 team in the country Memphis Melrose as part of a tripleheader of action this evening.

Oak Hill came out strong and controlled the game before a furious Melrose comeback cut the deficit to 49-44 after 3 quarters.

The Warriors used their superior depth and put on the press outscoring Melrose 31 to 15 in the final stanza and securing a 80-59 victory in the title game of the Battle of the Best showcase.

Adonis Thomas (Melrose) took game high scoring honors with 27 points, while Auburn signee Cedric McAfee (Melrose) added 13.

In the second game of the day, Kedren Johnson (Marshall County) scored 22 points and snatched 12 rebounds but it wasn't enough as a fatigued Tiger bunch fell to Alabama power Huntsville Lee 62-50.

Jordan Anderson (Marshall County) and Kevin Peterson (Marshall County) finished with 12 and 11 for the Tigers.

Melrose now heads down I24 to the Marshall County Hoopfest to tangle with Kentucky high school power Christian County in the nightcap tomorrow evening.
