The YOMCA Memphis Bulldogs were out to prove something this past weekend.
The 16 and under state was just the right venue for that to happen.
Tyler Stone (Memphis Central) and Ronald Brown (Raleigh-Egypt) led a very balanced Y attack and helped them swing past the Mid-State Ballerz 90-65 to capture the 'ship in very convincing fashion.
Stone and Brown are back with the Y and all is right with the world. Coach Spencer Johnson is one of the special guys in this arena and his squad is disciplined and plays well together.
Stone especially played superb this weekend showing he is ready for a breakout July.
Nick Mason (Fairley) continues his torrid summer pace and steady Julian Burton (White Station) is the leader for this squad.
For the Ballerz, Cordaro Williams (Liberty Tech) is making the most of his bright summer, shooting the lights out of every gym he enters.
Travai Pryor (Austin East) was solid for the Ballerz playing with his age group this weekend. His effort and desire continue to be at peak form right now. Julian Reese (Brentwood Academy), Tarius Johnson (Liberty Tech) and Kaneal Windom (JCM) all had good effort this weekend.
The Ballerz advanced to the title game with a 87-69 defeat of Team Nashville. Freddie Lee (McGavock) played inspired hoops for the Nashville bunch this weekend and was mentioned to me by more than one source.
The Y's journey to the title was a 71-50 victory against the Tennessee Stormriders. Robert Boyd (Fulton) continues to impress with his scoring ability this summer. Caleb Barrett (Knoxville West) also had a strong weekend.
