What's in a name.
Well a name I am quite fond of made a huge impact these past few days as the Super Showcase Gold and Silver brackets came down to the championships.
Andre Hollins (White Station) had a monsterous week leading the YOMCA to the final eight where they fell to a very powerful Team Takeover 59-50. Hollins finished with 14 in this one along with his new high school mate Nino Johnson (White Station). Wayne Martin (Florida) led the Y with 19. Steve Kasper (ECS) had a clutch three as these four were the only players to dent the scoring column.
Back to Hollins, his 16 led the YOMCA to a tough 56-55 win over the Risisng Stars Gold then he bagged 19 more as the Y cancelled the Showtime Ballaz 78-65 for their berth in the final eight. Martin added 14 and Johnson 10 in the win.
Now more on the Andre onslaught... a name you may not know but very soon will. Andre Brown (Clarksville Northwest) exploded for 37 points in the Copper quarterfinal then added a cool 31 as Team Nashville closed strong. Brown will now suit up for the 17's.
Pretty cool name , huh?
The Tennessee Travelers advanced into bracket play after winning their pool but fell to a powerful Louisiana Select squad 72-62. The Travs were right in the game before a costly injury to Rico "Suave" White (Bearden) made scoring tough in the second stanza. White would finish with 8. Galen Campbell (Fulton) did all he could adding 12 markers in the tough loss.
Cory Billingsley (Sweetwater) scored 24 points and Dustin Clarke (Hampton) added 17, including a game tying layup to send this one into overtime, but the Knoxville Panthers came up short 74-72 despite a great effort from the boys. The Panthers closed out the trip with a tough loss to the New Jersey Elite behind 20 more from Billingsley and 14 from Skylar Brown (Seymour).
Darious Paige (Southwind) came up gigantic with 27 points and the Memphis Stallions advanced to the quarter-finals of the Silver bracket before falling in a tough one.
The championships for the 16's will conclude early tomorrow.
