The Bobby Hussey Nike Memorial Day Classic seemed to be the big draw for most of the teams from the Volunteer state on the Memorial Day weekend.
The tournament was dominated by our squads in every age group from 17's to 14's.
In the 17 and under division the Mid-State Ballerz had a nice showing despite being shorthanded with an already short roster.
Caleb "Jimmer" Chowbay (Mt. Juliet) played well according to sources at the event. Rapheal Tyler (Lake County) and Aaron Wheeler (Morristown East) also played well throughout the event.
Rolling down to the 16's, the Memphis YOMCA put their stamp on this age group winning the event behind some tremendous play from Nick King (Memphis East), Juwon Johnson (Southwind), Austin Nichols (Briarcrest Christian) and Cameron Payne (Lausanne).
Johnson came bursting out of his shell and showed he is one of the top up and coming guards in the state in his age group....keep an eye on this one.
Staying with the 16's, the Tennessee Travelers had a nice weekend winning their pool before falling to the always powerful St. Louis Eagles in bracket play. Brock Rowan (Stone Memorial) put on a shooting clinic throughout this event, setting the bar very high as he claims his spot as the best shooter in the state. Rowan averaged around 18 per game for the event.
Kenny Dean (Alcoa) and Thomas Kaiser (MBA) played well and were praised for their performances, as were, Asa Duvall (Brentwood Academy) and Chance Bouldin (FRA).
Team Nashville finished strong going 2-1 in pool play but losing out to bracket action on a points tie breaker. Team Nashville did win their consolaition contest to finish at 3-1 for the weekend.
Darius Thompson (Blackman), Alec McMiller (Blackman) Matt Pond (Centennial) and Rozelle Wilson (Nashville Overton) all showed out for Team Nashville.
