The Pilot Rocky Top Fall League got underway with a bang
this past Saturday at Anderson
County High
School.
Lester Wilson
(Carter) dropped 26 points and captured an opening day win for Team
Pierson. Wilson, who finished as the days high scorer, was effective inside and
with the short jumper keeping his team alive in this back and forth affair. Jaeland Lawson (Bearden) hit back to
back threes to squash a huge lead, as Team Naler jumped out to a 18-6
advantage. Lawson would finish with 25 of his own.
Zach Sievers (William
Blount) led a balanced Team Naler scoring effort with 14. Linwood Holloway (Central) and Dre Mattheiu
(Central) contributed 13 and 12 respectively. Their high school teammate
but Rocky Top nemesis Brett Wade
(Central) added 12 for Team Pierson. JuJuan
Williams (Knoxville
West) finished with 8 points but accounted for a sensation block that
helped turn the momentum for Team Pierson late in the game.
Team Hunley 72
Team Johnson 58
Will Winton (Bearden)
made his presence felt in a big way dropping 20 markers in a 72-58 drubbing
of Team Johnson. Winton was spectacular scoring from inside and out and was
joined in the scoring column by Taylor Broussard (Catholic) with 12 and Lucas Branch (Catholic) with 10.
Devin Jackson (Knoxville West) was
the game's high scorer with 21 in the losing effort. Rising sophomore Jaylen Allen (Science Hill) added 13
for Team Johnson.
Team Kimber 60
Team Watts 50
Team Kimber set the tempo for the entire day playing tough
defense and besting Team Watts 60-50. Robert
Boyd (Fulton) was
simply outstanding on this day, scoring 16 points but wreaking havoc on the
opposing guards with his relentless defensive pressure and hustle. Boyd, who
along with Jalen Steele (Fulton), would finish
with 16 points. Rising freshman Shannon
Hale (Science Hill) played an outstanding game finishing with 10 points.
Galen Campbell (Fulton) and Dwight Tarwater (Knoxville Webb) led all scorers with 19
for Team Watts.
Team Benjamin 62
Team Stewart 60
Zach Sherrill (Stone
Memorial) tallied 21 points and lifted Team Benjamin to an opening day
62-60 victory over Team Stewart. Sherrill hit short jumpers and powered his way
to easy buckets inside while getting scoring help from Lucas Tarver (Oliver
Springs) with 11
points and 10 points from Mason Fox
(Stone Memorial). Fox had a number of crowd pleasing dribble drives to
account for his points. Jezreel "Macho"
DeJesus (Gatlinburg-Pittman) led all scorers with 15 and Cory Billingsly (Sweetwater) added 11.
Team McNeeley 57
Team Buckner 54
Alex Tipton (Maryville) busted 4
threes and finished with 16 points leading Team McNeeley to a 57-54 overtime
win over Team Buckner. Logan Sharp (Alcoa) added 15.
Tyler Smith (Anderson County) led Team Buckner with 13
points. Mason Goad (Cumberland
Gap) chipped in 12 and Dennis
Ramsey (Claiborne) added 11 in the tough loss.
Team Brown 74
Team Laverdiere 54
Austin Gardner (Morristown East) sank
19 points and Team Brown showed their dominance with an easy 74-54 win over
Team Laverdiere. Gardner and McKinley
Maples (Gatlinburg-Pittman) were the fortunate receivers of some timely
dishes from newcomer Rasham Suarez
(Gatlinburg-Pittman). The rising junior dropped 15 points as well. Jose Agosto (Gatlinburg-Pittman) finished
with 10 points for the winners.
Tyler Vittetoe (Union County)
knocked in 15 while Tanner Torres (Anderson County)
added 11 and Cody Malicote (Campbell County) finished with 10.
