Williams Lights Up the Place as PRTL Knoxville Readies for Championship Sunday

Week #5 action at Oak Ridge proved to be the best games to date. Two overtime clashes, Sevier County stays unblemished, a huge scoring output from Blake Williams and the games are set for Championship Sunday at Maryville College on the 9th.  

 

Sevier County 68

Blount County 66

Andy Barnett (Pigeon Forge) netted 26 points leading Sevier County to a tough 68-66 overtime victory over a hard nosed Blount County squad. The win moves Sevier County to 5-0 and a place in the championship game against Team Jackson this Sunday at Maryville College.

 

A close game throughout saw balanced scoring on both sides with Cody Malicoat (Jellico) scoring 15 and Brandon Stewart (Gatlinburg-Pittman) adding 14 in the extra session victory.

 

Cory Stroud (Heritage) led Blount County with 23 markers. He was followed closely by Brian Landers (Maryville) with 16, Matt Shown (Alcoa) with 13 and Matt Connatser (William Blount) with 12 points.

 

Blount County, who finished third in the division, will battle Cleveland #2 at Maryville College on Sunday.  

 

 

Anderson County 72

Team Lee 66

Trailing by 11 at the half, Spencer Shoffner (Oak Ridge) and Tyler King (Scott) decided enough was enough and proceeded to put together a 14 to 0 run and held on for a hard fought 72-66 victory over an undermanned Team Lee.

 

Shoffner finished with 27 points and King added 20 as Anderson County takes 2nd place in their division and will tangle with Team Nabors at Maryville College on Sunday.

 

Cory Fagan (Oak Ridge) played well in the second half comeback finishing with 15 markers in the close victory.

 

Drew Standifer (Bearden) was simply outstanding despite the loss, the rising senior netted 28 points and countless rebounds on the afternoon. He highlighted his day with a nasty block at the end of the contest. Joining Standifer in the scoring column Oteriah Lee (CAK) finished with 18 and Sam Greene (Bearden) added 13 markers.

 

Team Lee took third place in their division and will battle Cleveland on Sunday at Maryville College.

 

 

Team Nabors 59

Union County 51

Devin Sibley (Karns) and Burton "Big Money" Sampson (Knoxville Webb) dropped 19 and 17 points respectively leading Team Nabors past a scrappy and much more confident Union County squad 59-51 in overtime.

 

The win moves Team Nabors, who finished second in their division, into a contest with Anderson County on Sunday at Maryville College.

 

Joining Sibley and Sampson in the scorebook, Hunter Spaw (Grainger) finished with 10 points.

 

Union County, who will tangle with the Tri-Cities squad on Sunday at Maryville College, was led by Stetson Moore (Knoxville Halls) with 15 points and Cory Poteet (Campbell County) with 12.

 

 

Team Kimber 69

Tri-Cities 64

Team Kimber erased a big second half deficit behind balanced and timely scoring to slide past Tri-Cities 69-64 in afternoon action at the PRTL Knoxville Fall League. Zak Carter (Hardin Valley) dropped a season high 20 points leading a five some of double digit scorers for Kimber.

 

Isaac Merion (Oak Ridge) contributed 15, Imani Miller (Austin East) added 11 and Dejon McGill (Austin East) and Jake Elliott (South Doyle) added 10 points each.

 

Team Kimber will play Team Williams on championship Sunday at Maryville College.

 

Zach Howard (Science Hill) played outstanding in the tough loss for the Tri-Cities scoring 18 markers. Trevor Shelton (Unicoi County) added 11 and Tre Fields (Science Hill) and John Crow (University) chipped in with 10 points each.

 

Tri-Cities will battle Union County on Championship Sunday at Maryville College.

 

 

Team Williams 82

Team Naler 77

Blake Williams (Farragut) broke loose for a game high 31 points as Team Williams overcame a furious Team Naler comeback with a hard fought 82-77 victory.

 

With the win Team Williams moves to play Team Kimber on Championship Sunday at Maryville College.

 

Joining Williams in the scoring column, Jordan Belvin (Loudon) played his best game to date finishing with 18 markers, Adarius Wilson (Grace Christian) added 16 and Preston Spaulding (Farragut) finished with 12 points in the win.

 

Team Naler, who will tangle with Cumberland/Roane County in the opening contest at Championship Sunday, was very balanced in the scoring department.

 

Kyle Anders (Knoxville Catholic) led a group of five teammates in double digits including Sabian Smith (Knoxville Central), Ryan Henry (Knoxville Catholic) and Tevin Gunn (Hardin Valley) with 13 points and Micah Goss (Hardin Valley) with 12.

 

 

Team Jackson 81

Cumberland/Roane County 61

Calvin Walker (Knoxville West) and Kaseem Davidson (Oak Ridge) scored 20 points each leading Team Jackson to an 81-61 victory and a spot in the title game at Championship Sunday against unbeaten Sevier County.

 

Carson Brooks (Knoxville West) added 17 points in the victory.

 

Alex Fountain (Wartburg Central) finished with 21 points leading all scorers in the game. Cumberland/Roane County will battle Team Naler on Championship Sunday.

 

Brock Rowan (Stone Memorial) and Robert Troino (Stone Memorial) added 13 and 12 respectively in the loss.
