West Tennessee Holiday Tournament Results

Holiday tournament action was prevalent all over the state with various events taking place not only in Tennessee but all over the country and even out of the country in some instances.

 

Here is how some of the teams from West Tennessee faired in those tourneys.

 

Wynne Holiday Classic

Jonesboro (AK) 70

CBHS 62

The Purple Wave could muster the championship but played well enough to fall in the title game to one of the tourney favorites. Mitchell Sexton (CBHS) led the scoring with 17 points followed closely by Josh Bougher (CBHS) with 15.

 

Nashville Overton Christmas Classic

Nashville Overton 63

The Pharaohs of Raleigh-Egypt left the cozy confines of Memphis to travel up I40 and bring home the ‘ship at the Nashville Overton Christmas Classic. Geremy Henderson (Overton) led the Bobcats with 22 points and Ivan Alsup (Overton) chipped in with 21 markers.

 

Normandy Christmas Tournament

Ridgeway 49

Solden (IL) 44

Cameron Golden (Ridgeway) led a balanced attack with 12 points as the Roadrunners beeped past Solden from Illinois to capture the Normandy Christmas Classic. Adam Weary (Ridgeway) helped Ridgeway get to the finals with a 23 point effort in the semis. Melrose finished the event in 3rd place with a 55-54 victory behind Markel Crawford (Melrose) and his 24 points.

 

St. Louis Midwest Invitational

Wooddale 2-1

Wooddale finished 2-1 in a round robin event in Missouri behind the exploits of sophomore guard Jerry Johnson (Wooddale). The youngster managed a 30 point game accompanied by a 20 point outburst in the event. He is one of the top rising sophomores in the state without a doubt.  

 

Southern Beach Blowout@ Fort Walton

Southwind 3-0

Jujuan Johnson (Southwind) was exceptionally spectacular over the holidays, scoring 20 points in a 69-29 blowout at the Southern Beach Blowout in Fort Walton Beach Florida. Jonathan Williams III (Southwind) added 12 points in that win as well. Johnson then led the Jaguars with 21 markers in a 75-28 thrashing.

 

Carbondale Holiday Classic

MUS 69

Bartlett 57

Two teams from the Volunteer state had to travel to Illinois to meet in the title game of the Carbondale Holiday Classic. MUS behind 20 points from Danny Galvin (MUS) bested Bartlett 69-57 to capture the tourney crown. Arkansas signee Anthlon Bell (Bartlett) led all scorers with 24 points in the contest.  

 

Mike Miller Classic @ Mitchell (SD)

Braircrest Christian

Memphis Central

Two of the finest teams in the Memphis area took the extended trip to compete in the Mike Miller Classic in South Dakota over the holidays. Briarcrest Christian behind 24 points from rising junior star Austin Nichols (Braircrest Christian) had their way with several opponents. Memphis Central used some balanced scoring from the foursome of Andre Applewhite (Memphis Central), Josh Jones (Memphis Central), Myron Johnson (Memphis Central) and D'Arius Sorrell (Memphis Central) to their successful time in the Great Northwest.

 

Go Southern Shootout

Dyer County 65

ECS 42

Fred Yarbrough (Dyer County) dropped 23 points and the Choctaws got by ECS 65-42 to capture the Go Southern Shootout. Freshman sensation Skal Labissiere (ECS) led the Eagles with 16 while Kip Owens (ECS) added 14 markers.
