Union City and Manassas…The Showdown is Here

This is the game everyone has talked about since the start of the new season.

Union City and Manassas certainly the two best teams in this classification will finally lace them up on Saturday for the shiny gold ball and a chance to call themselves state champs.

Both squads had dominant semi-final performances, let's recap some of that action.

Union City 101

Moore County 86

Reigning Mr. Basketball M.J. Brown dropped 27 and Tony Wilkins added 25 as the Golden Tornadoes of Union City whitewashed Moore County on Friday afternoon 101-86. Union City was determined to come out on fire and not have another bad shooting game and they did just that, hitting 48% from behind the arc and coasting to the title game.

Joining Brown and Wilkins in the scoring column Nik Brooks finished with 19 and Lavan Mosley added 17.

Tyler Jean was solid in defeat for Moore County finishing with 27 points and 9 assists. Heath Fanning added 19 in the losing cause.

 

Manassas 83

University 42

The Tigers outscored University 46 to 18 in the second half and behind 12 points and 11 boards from Reginald Buckner rolled to the title game against unbeaten Union City.

Sean Kerney led Manassas with 13 points and 12 players found their name in the scoring column for the Tigers.

University was led by William Burton with 11 and Josh Padgett with 10. University closed the season at 26-6.
