Travelers and Celtics Grab Crowns in Indianapolis

Championships are the reason why everyone goes through all the trouble of the July months and we were rewarded with two from a couple of our most prestigious programs this past week in Indianapolis.

Over in the Indiana Shootout, the Tennessee Travelers 17 and under squad got 15 points from Galen Campbell (Fulton) and another solid performance from Lester "The Action Figure" Wilson (Carter) as they grabbed the gold bracket championship with a 46-31 victory.

"A total team defensive effort" is how Coach Chad Smith described the victory and he was quick to praise everyone for their collective efforts in the victory. In addition to Campbell and Wilson, the combined efforts of Rico White (Bearden), Craig Bradshaw (CPA), Zach Garland (David Crockett), Tres Palmer (Powell), Brandon Lopez (Austin East), Dre Mattheiu (Knoxville Central), Jordan Cross (Sullivan East) and Shannon Hale (Science Hill) brought the title home for the Travs.

Over at the adidas Invitational, the pool play action was not kind to the Nashville Celtics as they struggled losing their first three games before stepping into the Palladium bracket to close out their Indianapolis run.

A nice heart felt talk from a passionate coach got the blood boiling and then things began to change. The Michigan Mustangs felt the sting first in a 30 point loss as the Celtics reeled off four wins, including two with scores over 100 points, capturing the Palladium division championship trophy.

Kendall Anthony (Liberty Tech) and Anthony Hickey (Kentucky) took matters into their own hands and controlled the tempo making life absolutely miserable for their opponents.

Now onto Kentucky for the Kentucky Hoopfest!!!!!!!!!!!
