Action at the Wazoo Sports Hoopfeast 2008 was not for the faint of heart today. Two big time clashes among some of the best squads in the state produced a couple of big wins a couple of squads who look to make some noise this season.
Justin Sylvester (Dobyns Bennett) knocked down 24 points including 4 3's and helped the Indians to a 81-70 victory over the Stars of Siegel. Sylvester got the momentum started from the jump knocking down three of his ling shots in the first half and getting added inside help from senior big man Jordan Edwards (Dobyns Bennett), who would finish the game with 16 large.
With Kerry Hammonds (Siegel) scoring 28 for the Stars the Indians still needed a strong second half effort from Ashlon Adams (Dobyns Bennett) , who scored 15 of his 18 in the second half for the Charlie Morgans squad. Marc Gooch (Siegel) chipped in with 13 in the loss.
In the earlier game, Farragut behind 18 markers from senior Sam Watson (Farragut) overcame a huge Hilltopper comeback after a substantial Admiral lead to squeak out a 79-74 victory. Watson continues to improve his offensive game adding a nice stroke from the perimeter to his arsenal. Junior wing Nate Clark (Farragut) was a huge catalyst for the Admirals scoring 17 points and consistently getting huge offensive boards and timely buckets to keep the Farragut folks in the lead.
Chattanooga signee Josh Odom (Science Hill) and senior backcourt mate Chris Smith (Science Hill) both scored 21 for the Toppers.
More action on Saturday has Siegel battling Science Hill, Knoxville Central takes on Dobyns Bennett, Berean Christian tangles with Claiborne and in the finale Farragut takes on Alcoa.
