Session 1 for the Nike EYBL league took flight in sunny Sacramento this past weekend with our lone Tennessee representative Team Penny showing they will be a team to watch this summer finishing 3-1 with big wins over the St. Louis Eagles, Albany City Rocks and Mokan Elite before falling in a close one to CP3.
Team Penny rode the talents of Memphis commitment Keelon Lawson (Florida) snatching their first win in a thrilling 81-71 soaring over the St. Louis Eagles. Lawson finished with 23 points while family member Dedric Lawson (Florida) added 20. Nych Smith (White Station) also finished with double digits adding 10 markers to the conquest.
Donte Fitzpatrick (Southwind) took scoring honors with 19 and the younger Lawson added 18 as Team Penny improved to 2-0 with a throwing of the Albany City Rocks 69-62.
Keelon Lawson was high man with 17 as Team Penny dropped to 2-1 in Session I with a hard fought 59-55 loss to the powerful CP3 crew. Dedric added 14 and Smith finished with 11 in the loss.
Team Penny got back to their winning ways finishing the session at 3-1 with a 62-58 victory over Mokan Elite. Dedric led the scoring brigade with 19 followed as always by his brother Keelon with 16. Smith closed out the scoring with a cool dozen.
In other EYBL news the Wings Elite from Arkansas finished the weekend 2-2 behind some outstanding play from Marlon Hunter (Houston).
The 6'5 rising senior started out strong dropping 13 markers in a win over the Southern Stampede. He managed 8 points as the Wings lost to Spiece and only garnered 2 in a loss to All Ohio Red.
Hunter closed on a very high note dangling 21 markers as the Wings also closed on a high with a win over The Challenge from Alabama.
