Championship Saturday went off without a hitch as Team Moore concluded an unbeaten season by capturing the Rocky Top High School Fall League title in convincing fashion against Team Matthews. The two representatives from Cleveland showed out very well as they were victorious in both of their contests as well. Let's check out the action from Saturday at Maryville College.
Team Driscoll 80
Team Wannamaker 55
Yosmond Fenderson (Knoxville West) scored 19 of his 24 in the second half as Team Driscoll used a pressing style to overwhelm Team Wannamaker 80-55 in the day's first game. Fenderson joined three other teammates in double digits including Micah Goss (Fulton) with 11 and Ryan Henry (Knoxville Catholic) and Camion Patrick (Knoxville West) with 10 each. Goss was especially strong distributing the rock along with his double digit scoring prowess.
Deonta Bizzle-Brown (Hardin Valley) led Team Wannamaker with 15 points. Grant Holt (Anderson County) added 10 in the loss.
Team Lee 82
Team Jackson 70
Jack Graham (Bearden) was "en fuego" from the outside scoring a game high 22 points leading Team Lee to an 82-70 win over Team Jackson. Graham led four teammates with double digits including Oterriah Lee (CAK) with 19, Brady Smith (Bearden) with 16 and Nick Campbell (CAK) finished with 14 on the day.
Jalin Henderson (Oak Ridge) led Team Jackson with 19 followed closely by Isaac Merian (Oak Ridge) and Lucas Campbell (CAK) with 14 and Kyle Gunther (Sunbright) with 13.
Team Dorsey 86
Team Watts 76
Devin Schmidt (Sevier County) dropped in 41 points and for his effort was named the MVP of the Rocky Top High School Fall League as he helped lead Team Dorsey to an exciting 86-76 victory over a tough Team Watts.
Schmidt was a man among boys scoring his 41 along with double digit rebounds and assists. Nigel Bethel (Knoxville West) pitched in with 15 points and Jacob Elliott (South Doyle) added 12 in the win.
Tyler Yoder (Stone Memorial) took scoring honors for Team Watts with 23 points on the day. Sam Greene (Bearden) added 21; Adarius Wilson (Bearden) notched 11 and Cameron Turner (Farragut) finished with 10.
The All-League Teams for Knoxville and Cleveland will be announced later in the week.
Cleveland #1 65
Team Riddick 47
Jahmal Johnson (Cleveland) led a balanced scoring attack as Cleveland #1 overcame a huge Team Riddick comeback before settling in for a 65-47 victory at Maryville College on Saturday. Johnson was assisted in the scoring column by Ben Snider (Ooltewah) with 12 and Rokas Paulauskas (Hamilton Heights) with 10.
Brian Landers (Maryville) led all scorers with 19 on the day. His high school teammates joined him in the score book as Clark McCall (Maryville) finished with 15 and Isaac Edmiston (Maryville) added 12.
Cleveland #2 73
Team Smith 53
Levi Woods (Meigs County) dropped 15 points leading a trio of double digit scorers as Cleveland #2 got the most of Team Smith 73-53 on Championship Saturday at Maryville College. Woods was joined in the scoring column by Jamaal Calvin (McCallie) with 12 and Jorden Williams (McCallie) with 10. Special mention for the trio of inside performers who controlled the glass for this Cleveland squad those players include Alex Watkins (Tyner Academy), Sam Gregory (Walker Valley) and Lannom Sowell (Signal Mountain).
Marcellus Roberts (Knoxville Central) and Andre Wilson (Austin East) led Team Smith with 13 points each. DeJon McGill (Austin East) added 12 in the loss.
Team Moore 88
Team Matthews 65
Devin Sibley (Karns) and Stetson Moore (Knoxville Halls) scored 23 and 21 respectively as Team Moore used a big second half to capture the championship at the Rocky Top High School Fall League 88-65 over Team Matthews.
Tyler Bunch (Knoxville Halls) played an outstanding game scoring 16 points in the win including 12 in the second half.
Brock Rowan (Stone Memorial) led Team Matthews with 18 points. Alex Fountain (Wartburg Central) finished with 16 in the loss. Justin Simmons (Stone Memorial) added 13.
