Session 2 of the July live period got to a bang with Team Corey Brewer advancing to the title game of the Silver bracket at the 15 and under Super Showcase in Orlando today.
Team CB came out on fire with a barrage of three's and took an early 18-10 first quarter lead over Florida Select.
Jacob Williams (Wilson Central) and Derrick Spears (MTCS) had the early hot hand and while the Select had the obvious height advantage the game was knotted at 25 at the break.
Shots didn't fall in the third and Team CB fell behind and with 4 minutes on the clock found themselves down by 10.
Williams buried his 5th three of the game and Ryan Jones (Siegel) converted a driving lay-in and the lead was cut in half.
A defensive stop but a costly turnover forced Team CB to foul and in the end they fell 59-55.
In their first year of existence this squad accomplished a great deal on the AAU/Summer circuit winning an event and finishing in the title game of one of the most prestigious events in their age classification.
Williams would lead the scoring with 15, while Spears added 12 in the tough loss. Jones was a leader from his point guard spot hitting big shots in the clutch and finding his teammates for open shots and making sure everyone knew what was up.
Charles Clark (Siegel) also had a nice game finishing with 9 points and playing well throughout the event.
Alex Watkins (Tyner Academy) showed some promise and Dominique Gooch (Siegel) scored inside when needed.
As this team grows and finds a couple more big pieces of the puzzle they will be a team to reckon with for a couple more summers before they are through.
