Swift Drains Epic Shot….Lake County Adavances in Overtime (Class A Results)

What a shot and what a game.

Derrick Swift (Lake County) drained a 70' heave off a missed foul shot lifting Lake County into overtime, where they used the momentum of the big shot to gl;ide past BTW 79-77.

Things looked bleak late as leading scorer Rafeal Tyler (Lake County) had fouled out and BTW seemingly had the game in hand yet they continued to leave time on the clock with missed foul shots.

Five Lake County players finished in double digits led by Ricky Boyd (Lake County) with 18. Devon Jones (Lake County) and Swift added 16, while Stetson Swift (Lake County) finished with 13 and Tyler added 11 in a tough game for the 2,000 point scoring machine.

Freshman Khalil Spencer (BTW) was huge in the loss scoring 33 points. Ole Miss signee Martavious Newby (BTW) finished with 25 points and 10 boards.

Perry County 71

Wartburg Central 43

Cannon Rhodes (Perry County) and Jacob Tucker (Perry County) each netted 17 points as traditional state power Perry County overwhelmed Wartburg Central 71-43 and win a date on Friday with defending state champion Lake County.

Taylor Dill (Perry County) added 10 markers in the victory.

Alex Fountain (Wartburg Central) led his squad with 17 points and 12 caroms. Brad Richardson (Wartburg Central) added 15 in the loss.

McEwen 65

Cloudland 64

Garrett Mullinicks (McEwen) drained one of two foul shots with little time on the clock to thwart a massive Cloudland rally and lift his squad to a 65-64 victory in late night Class A action.

McEwen behind early scoring from Patrick Mullinicks (McEwen) started to run away with the game before Taylor Whitehead (Cloudland) put a stop to all that nonsense.

The junior kept making plays and after a three-point play the old fashioned way, Cloudland took a one point lead before Mullinicks' foul line heroics.

Mullinicks, Garrett that is finished with 29 points in the narrow victory while his cousin Patrick added 16.

Zac Potter (Cloudland) led Cloudland with 20 while Whitehead finished with 18 points and 11 rebounds.

Friendship Christian 52

Grace Baptist 46

In the Class A nighcap, Friendship Christian used 16 points from Allen Heaston (Friendship Christian) and 13 from Dalton Patterson (Friendship Christian) to roll past Grace Baptist 52-46 and set up a semi-final date with 31-1 McEwen.

Mark Sandoval (Friendship Christian) finished with 10 points and 12 caroms in the win.

Corey Nelson (Grace Baptist) led all scorers with 20 points and Stephen Record (Grace Baptist) added 12 in the close loss.
