One of our favorite features is back. Coaches have told me this is what they wait for each week. I have scoured the news sources from around the state and come up with the top scoring efforts. This ha become increasingly harder as the local newspapers are no longer putting box scores in the paper. I could use your help if you find or know of anyone scoring over 25 points in a game, please let me know. I can be reached at andre@tnprephoops.com or @tnprephoops on twitter.
Blackman Opens the young season with a 68-53 win over Sumter Central to capture the title at the N2 Hoops Invitational. Trent Gibson (Blackman) drops 24 in the championship game victory and comes home with the MVP trophy. Nathan Nelson (Blackman) and Brandon Thomas (Blackman) were named to the all-tournament team.
Props for Knoxville Webb senior guard Myles Rasnick (Knoxville Webb) for forever etching his name in Spartan folklore passing the 1,000 point barrier for his career.
Tyler Harris (Cordova) is simply doing work out in West Tennessee. The 5'9 senior marksman had three terrific games scoring 37 against BTW, 43 against Brighton and then a 54 spot against Craigmont. Class AAA Mr. Basketball has a strong candidate.
The 54 point effort from Harris was not the top scoring effort in the state in this early portion of the season. Down Knoxville way, Jordan Corvette (Knoxville Halls) scored 56 in a win over Gibbs to set the bar very high for top scoring effort.
Keishawn Davidson (Oakland) has had a whirlwind start to his junior campaign. Committing to MTSU, then dropping 27 against Northwest, followed up with 25 against Gallatin and for good measure a 28 spot against Mt. Juliet.
Antavion Collum (Tennessee Prep) departed Memphis East for more playing time and the strategy has worked to perfection thus far as the rising 6'8 guard has scored several offers in the past week including Pittsburgh. He started the season strong as well with a 29 spot against Rise Center Prep.
How about this for a scoring duo over at Grace Christian Academy in Knoxville. Grant Ledford (Grace Christian) and C.J. Gettelfinger (Grace Christian) have been putting up large numbers in the early portion of the season. C.J., who has committed to Oakland University, had 41 in a tough loss to Alcoa and a cool 27 against William Blount over the holiday weekend. Ledford scored 33 against Haywood in a big program win, 32 against Heritage and 26 against William Blount.
K.J. Johnson (Marshall County) is off to a blistering start as well. The junior lead guard scored 27 in a win over Fairview and a sic 38 against Siegel. Along the way he scored his first D1 offer as well with Tennessee-Martin extending the pledge.
The Bulldogs of Bearden are off to a rousing start as well behind the scoring exploits of a apair of lead guards Trent Stephney (Bearden) and Ques Glover (Bearden). Stephney dropped 30 against Unaka and added 28 in a win over Sullivan Central while Glover added 27 in the Sullivan Central triumph.
Nate Bloedorn (Nolensville) picked up where he left off from the Fall League with a pai of 29 point efforts against Nashville Overton and Siegel. The rising junior is putting everyone on notice to come watch him play, do it now.
