Confidence!!!!!!!!!!
Its what seperates the good from the very good and the great from the outstanding.
Murfreesboro Siegel playing in the Larry Finch Classic last week was in much need of some confidence. A big win over previously unbeaten state power Liberty Tech did just that.
With this renewed vigor the Stars behind 21 markers by Marc Gooch (Siegel) captured the 2008 Venture Express Great 8 Holiday Tourney at Riverdale with a 82-69 victory against Memphis Central.
Siegel looked remarkably poised throughout the event capturing a tough opening round win against always intense Shelbyville and then besting Maplewood in the semis.
Steady during this Siegel surge junior Kerry Hammonds (Siegel) added 17 to the cause, while Levon Tate (Siegel) also added 17 points and a bunch of rebounds. Levon likes his rebounds.
Central was led by junior Tim Peete (Central) with 22. The rising junior was playing his first games back from an injury that has sidelined him most of the season. Once he gets his stamina back look out Memphis. Masceo Harmon (Central) added 16.
In the third place game Jacquil Jacox (Maplewood) scored a season high 28 and helped leads the Panthers of Maplewood to a 70-60 triumph over Maryville.
Gerald Corlew (Maplewood) added 19 and newcomer Freddie Lee (Maplewood) contributed 13.
For the Rebels Jay Reynolds (Maryville) finished with 20 and junior Cameron Langley (Maryville) added 13.
