A packed house in the Kentucky wilderness was the scene as the Spartans of White Station slipped by a precocious Pinckneyville (Ill.) squad 51-45 to experince victory at the 2007 Marshall County Hoopfest.
Joe Jackson (White Station) gathered MVP honors scoring 19 points and helping deflect a furious Pinckneyville comeback with back to back three during a late fourth quarter stretch.
The Spartans are painfully young starting two sophomores and two freshman among their first five. The freshmen made quite an impact in their national debuts. Marvin Williams (White Station) was a beast down low scoring 16 points and grabbing 9 caroms. His good hands and solid inside skills make him a very recruitable prospect down the road. His classmate Andre Hollins (White Station) was also impressive scoring 10 points and making hustle plays to keep possessions alive.
In Friday night action Briarcrest Christian fell to perennial Kentucky power Paducah Tilghman 70-63. 2009 top dog Leslie McDonald (Braircrest Christian) finished with 21 points and 12 boards in the losing effort. His classmate Gregg Wooten (Braircrest Christian) also played a fine floor game finishing with 20 points.
On Thursday night Shelbyville got the Tennessee trio off on the right foot dropping Carbondale, Ill. 55-45. The Golden Eagles placed three in doublwe digits led by Michael France (Shelbyville) with 17. Tory Robertson (Shelbyville) and Emmanuel Andrews (Shelbyville) fiished with 12 and 10 respectively.
