Briarcrest Christian used a late fourth quarter surge and slipped by Archbishop Carroll from Washington D.C. 71-61 to capture the 25th Annual Arby's Classic.
A back and forth game throughout the first three stanzas shifted after two big plays from tourney MVP Leslie McDonald (Braircrest Christian). Tough glass work by the talented junior resulted in some fastbreak ops as McDonald fed first junior Gregg Wooten (Braircrest Christian) for a spot up three and then a sic outlet to a streaking Elgin Lee (Briarcrest Christian) gave the Saints a 45-40 lead they held onto till the end.
McDonald was superb in all facets this evening, scoring 26 grabbing 8 boards and a game high 7 dimes. He also put the keibosh on Syracuse bound Kris Joseph when defensive assignments were switched. Joining McDonald in the scoring column senior wing Elgin Lee finished with 21 and junior point Greeg Wooten added 19, inlcuding four threes.
For their efforts McDonald (MVP), Lee, Wooten and junior big man Johnny Williams (Briarcrest Christian) were named to the all-tournament squad.
The only other Tennessee hoopster to garner all-tournament kudos was Dobyns Bennett guard Justin Sylvester.
