Rocky Top High School Fall League Week #1 Gets Off to a Rousing Start

Opening week of the Rocky Top High School Fall League got underway this past Saturday at Powell High School with six games featuring the best of the best on the East Tennessee hoops landscape. Lets break down the action shall we.

 

 

 

 

 

Team O'Hara 60

Team Derrick 58

 

Myles Ransick (Knoxville Webb) and Emory Lanier (Knoxville Webb) scored 12 and 11 points each as Team O'Hara got off on the right foot edging Team Derrick in a classic opener 60-58.

The effort offset an outstanding scoring performance from rising sophomore Dante Harris (Alcoa) who netted a game high 22 markers.

Team O'Hara (1-0) will put their unblemished record on the line this Saturday as they tangle with Team Conn (0-1) while Team Derrick (0-1) looks to get on the correct side of the winning ledger as they battle Team Sharp (0-1).

 

 

Team Gillespie 81

Team Booher 53

 

Ques Glover (Bearden) led a trio of double digit scorers with 17 as Team Gillespie came out hot and took advantage of huge start holding off the charging Team Booher to the tune of an 81-53 triumph. Mehki Carter (Alcoa) and Roman Robinson (Bearden) dropped 15 each for the victors.

The loss overshadowed a big game from rising junior Sean Oglesby (Knoxville Central) who scored a league high 23 points in the loss. Connor Jordan (Morristown East) added 14 in the loss.

Team Gillespie (1-0) will take another victor in Team Steinmetz (1-0) this Saturday at Powell High School. Team Booher (0-1) finds the road to victory unforgiving as they will lace them up with Team Morton (1-0).

 

 

Team Uphcurch 58

Team Sharp 54

 

Joe Anderson (Maryville) scored 15 as Team Upchurch pulled ahead late and overcame a last second heave for the victory that just fell short capturing the win 58-54 over Team Sharp.

Jacob Giles (Maryville) and Akeem Odusipe (Knoxville Catholic) scored 11 each for the winners.

Trent Stephney (Bearden) led all scorers with 17 points while fellow rising junior Shamarcus Brown (Bearden) was outstanding dropping 14 markers and double digit caroms along the way.

Team Upchurch (1-0) takes on another Saturday winner in Team Feltner (1-0) in an early season heavyweight battle. Team Sharp (0-1) will look to right the ship as they welcome Team Derrick (0-1) to town.

 

 

Team Morton 95

Team Coward 82

 

Caleb Tripp (Powell) playing in his home gym, netted 22 points leading a five spot of double digit performers to a 95-82 win against a short staffed Team Coward.

Joining Tripp in the scoring column for Team Morton were Barron Nease (Union County) with 20, Josh Woods (Powell) with 15 and the Oak Ridge brotherly duo of Levert Smith (Oak Ridge) and Marcus Smith (Oak Ridge) who garnered 13 and 10 respectively.

C.J. Gettlefinger (Grace Christian) led Team Coward with 21 points followed closely by Baylor Younker (Grace Christian) with 12, Jordan Corvette (Knoxville Halls) with 11 and Travis Dixon (Hardin Valley) with 10.

Team Morton (1-0) will battle dangerous Team Booher (0-1) while Team Coward (0-1) goes up against Team Matthews (0-1).

 

 

Team Feltner 62

Team Conn 60

 

One of the best games of the day saw Team Feltner behind 13 from Mahkai Olden (Morristown West) slide past a very good Team Conn 62-60 in late day action at Powell High School.

Austin McKeehan (Cosby) led all scorers with 14 for Team Conn in the loss. He was aided by 11 from Michael Cody (Monterey) and 10 from Dalton Conn (Grainger).

 Darius Allen (Jefferson County) added 12 for the winner while Jackson Rowan (Knoxville Catholic) pitched in with 11.

Team Feltner (1-0) has a stern test this Saturday against Team Upchurch (1-0) while Team Conn (0-1) battles Team O'Hara (1-0) in the nightcap this Saturday at Powell.

 

 

Team Steinmetz 70

Team Matthews 58

 

Dillon Fountain (Wartburg Central) scored 15 as Team Steinmetz used balanced scoring up and down the roster to get the best of Team Matthews 70-58 in the finale of Rocky Top Fall League week one concluded.

Fountain was assisted in the scoring column by Rhett Nelson (Oakdale) who bombed 14 points and Josh Berry (Fulton) who finished with 10.

Brett Newcombe (Stone Memorial) took game scoring honors with 18. Luke Joiner (Loudon) added 10 in the loss.

Team Steinmetz (1-0) starts the day this Saturday with a big clash against Team Gillespie (1-0) while Team Matthews (0-1) looks t right the ship against Team Coward (0-1).
