Rocky Top High School Fall League Gets Underway with a Bang


Action got off to a raucous start this past Saturday at the Rocky Top High School Fall League. GraceChristianAcademy was the site for the opening day and they boys did not disappoint with several close games including a double overtime affair.


Team Smith 73

Team Sharp 68


Zak Carter (Hardin Valley) saved his best for last scoring 9 points in the overtime sessions and lifting Team Smith to a hard fought 73-68 win over Team Sharp. Carter led all scorers with 23 markers in the double overtime affair. Joining him in the score book were Luke Sheppard (Grace Christian) with 14 and Braxton Moore (Knoxville Halls) with 13.

Team Sharp placed five players in double digits led by Austin Arrington (Seymour) with 16, followed by Cody Underwood (Sevier County) with 14 and Gunnar Gibson (Seymour) with 12, including 8 in the overtime sessions.

Steffan Schroedder (Gatlinburg-Pittman) finished with 12 and Clay Leatherwood (Gatlinburg-Pittman) added 10.



Team Matthews 55

Team Garman 51

Tyler Yoder (Stone Memorial) notched a game high 16 points as Team Matthews came from behind to rally and secure a 55-51 victory over Team Garman in Rocky Top High School Fall League action at Grace Christian on Saturday.

Justin Simmons (Stone Memorial) added 11 in the win for Team Matthews.

Isaac Merian (Oak Ridge) led the charge for Team Garman dropping 13 markers. He was assisted in the scoring column by Xavier Maddox (Oak Ridge) who finished with 11.



 Team Burns 48

Team Jackson 41

Logan Cox (Bradley Central) scored 15 points leading Team Burns to a tough 48-41 triumph over Team Jackson in afternoon action at the Rocky Top High School Fall League. Cox was assisted in the scoring ledger by Levi Woods (Meigs County) who finished with 11 and Kendrick Thompson (Cleveland) who added 10.

Andre Wilson (Austin East) tied for game high scoring honors with 15 in the close loss. Jordan Bowden (Carter) added 10 in the tough loss.



Team Riddick 50

Team Driscoll 49

David Kinlaw (William Blount) dropped 22 points on 11-11 shooting from the field helping Team Riddick pull out the 50-49 win over Team Driscoll.

Matching Kinlaw virtually bucket for bucket was Austin Cox (Knoxville Webb) who finished with a team high 21 markers in the narrow loss.

Nico White (Alcoa) finished with 12 points for the victors while "Killer" Cameron Turner (Farragut) notched 14 in defeat.



Team Coffin 73

Team Watts 71

One of the toughest games of the day, Tyler Nichols (Elizabethton) got a steal on the in-bounds with only two ticks remaining on the clock and converted the bucket lifting Team Coffin to a battle tested 73-71 win over Team Watts.

Team Coffin came out of the gates like a team possessed behind the scoring of David McFarlane (Volunteer) and Grayson Ball (Sullivan North) and took a 15 point lead into the half.

Team Watts came out of the break with something to prove, behind Darius Filer (Fulton), Kelvin Jackson (Fulton) and Brady Nease (Union County) they caught up and forged ahead before the back and forth affair ensued.

Chase Phillips (Johnson County) erased a 3 point Team Watts lead with only seconds on the clock draining his first bucket of the game, a deep three to tie things up at 71, before the Nichols in bounds game winning score.

McFarlane led all scorers with 20, including 14 in the first half. Ball added 16 and Nichols notched 12 for the victors.

Nease led Team Watts with 17 followed closely by Jackson with 16. Lannom Sowell (Signal Mountain) added 10 in the narrow loss.



Team Feltner 86

Team Lee 59

Kaden Wampler (Science Hill) scored 23 points including 7 threes as Team Feltner simply couldn't miss sliding past Team Lee 86-59 in the final contest of the day.

Bryce Cusick (Jefferson County) had a nice game himself scoring 21 points in the win. Jon Bryant (Jefferson County) finished with 14.

Trevor Jain (Pigeon Forge) led Team Lee with 13 markers. Lucas Campbell (CAK) and Calvin Songster (Science Hill) each finished with 10 in the loss.
