The basketball season has begun. Football is now officially over and the hardwood becomes the main attraction around the state. I have once again scoured the earth, from Bristol to Brighton bringing you the most comprehensive scoring list in the state. This has become one of our most favorite entries as college coaches have told me often how they look at the list weekly. We will have profiles from some of the top performers and a list of scoring over 25 points from East, Middle and West Tennessee.
Sub-state or Sectional games tip tomorrow night all around the state. Region games ended this past week and here is the scoring from those contests.
Rodgerick Brown (Cordova) had himself a very memorable game in the region final victory over Brighton, the rising junior busted 23 points and 22 caroms while snatching an offensive board and putting it in for the game winning bucket. Cordova welcomes Southwind tomorrow with a trip to the 'boro on the line.
Rising sophomore Trent Stephney (Bearden) has come on very strong as the playoffs have moved along. This past week he dropped 22 in a region semi-final victory over Powell and added 23 in the region finale loss to Oak Ridge. The Bulldogs travel to Science Hill with a chance to make the trip to state.
Kellen King (Brentwood) is what we call a hidden gem. His stats prove that with big performances in the biggest games, including 24 against Cane Ridge in the region semi-final victory and 25 in the narrow loss to Independence in the region title game. The Bruins will take on Northeast for a trip to state.
Ever heard of Zach Lewis (Brighton)? Junior guard did damage last week including 27 in the regional semis against Bolton and a 29 spot in the region finals against Cordova. The big test will be tomorrow nigh as the battle defending Class AAA state champion Memphis East for a trip to the state tournament.
Bryan College commitment Isaiah McClain (Harriman) doesn't want this season to end. His Harriman squad welcomes Cosby tomorrow night with a trip to state on the line. McClain was a beast last week with a 28 point effort against district nemesis Meigs County then dropped 23 as the Devils bested Grace Christian for the first time in three tries.
Big players step up in big games, sophomore sensation Chandler Lawson (Memphis East) has been at his best since the playoffs began including a team high 21 against Ridgeway in the region semis and a 22 point effort against Southwind to take the region. East welcomes Brighton with a trip to state on the docket.
A nice young player to keep an eye on is Carson Cary (Columbia Academy). This rising sophomore has been dropping points all season and his 25 point effort in the region semis against Wayne County has his Bulldogs ready for their Monday night meet and greet at Huntland.
