Week #2 saw some outstanding efforts and some close games. I apologize for the delay as the school received some significant flood damage during the torrential downpours of last week and information was delayed.
Alfonzo Cox (East Ridge) led a group of five double digit scorers as Vanderbilt raises their record to 2-0 with an aggressive 99-69 victory over Alabama. Cox, who finished with 24 points, was a monster on the glass finishing with well over double digit caroms as well.
Assisting Cox in the scorebook were Steadman Ford (Notre Dame) with 19 markers, Eric Traylor (East Ridge) and Bradley McCurdy (Cleveland) with 17 apiece and Cole Burchfield (Georgia) with 16.
Jervon Johnson (Ooltewah) took game high scoring honors with 29 points and Greg Besley (East Ridge) finished with 15 points in the loss.
Alabama falls to 1-1 on the young season.
Josh Green (Georgia) lit up the Cleveland High School gym with 29 points as Marquette etched their name in the win column with a very close 74-71 triumph over a determined Syracuse squad.
Green was outstanding from the perimeter and scored a group of his points in transition finishing at the rim. Jeremiah Nason (Boyd Buchanan) was outstanding as well scoring 18 points, while Ben Williams (Georgia) added 14 and Cameron Colverd (Bledsoe County) finished with 13 markers.
Justin Ragsdale (Silverdale Academy) continues to prove he is one of the better players in the Chattanooga area. The rising senior notched 28 points and kept his team in the game with timely scores and finishes. Logan Brewer (Polk County) was again steady scoring 15 points in the very close loss.
Cordell James (McCallie) notched a game high 28 points as Florida moved to 1-1 with a big 85-65 win over Louisville. James was outstanding from the perimeter and played the point equally efficient setting up his teammates including Eddie Hitchcock (East Ridge), who finished with 19 points, for open jumpers.
Logan Cox (Bradley Central) got into the scoring act as well, dropping 16 points on a slew of shots from the bent line. Ronzell Robinson (Cleveland) finished with 10 for the victors.
Max Miller (McMinn Central) was high scorer for Louisville, who moved their season mark to 1-1, with 15 points. Jarod Rhodes (Cleveland) added 13 points and Chris Green (East Ridge) finished with 12.
C.J. Reese (McCallie) passed it and Hunter Chastain (Bradley Central) scored it. The duo was magnificent as Connecticut notched their first win with a 79-53 victory over Villanova.
Reese, who only scored 9 points, did his damage in much higher doses dropping almost 20 assists while Chastain was the lucky recipient of majority of those dimes finishing with a league high 36 points on the afternoon.
Miles Morgan (Bradley Central) finished with 14 points and Jerelle Wilson (Tyner Academy) added 12 in the win.
Justus McMillan (Boyd Buchanan) continues his scoring spree adding 20 in the loss, while emerging post force Josh Coleman (Rhea County) added 16 in the loss.
D.J. Bowles (Notre Dame) scored 22 points keeping Tennessee unblemished at 2-0 with a tough hard fought 65-61 victory over Auburn.
Bowles was in a battle with Jamaal Calvin (McCallie) and the two special guards did not disappoint. Calvin finished with 25 on the afternoon.
Joining Bowles in the scoring column were a pair of Borns, Leo Born (Baylor) who notched 15 and little brother Clay Born (Baylor) who added 11 in the close victory.
Preston Russell (Tellico Plains) continues to impress with a 21 points point outburst for Auburn in the close loss.
