Pre-Christmas Tourney Results

Holiday tournaments take precedent this time of year with some very nice events occurring before the Christmas break and more starting the week before the New Year.

 

Let's look at some of the results from this weeks holiday events.

 

Gibson County Christmas Tournament

Bolivar Central 83

Dyer County 74

In one of the better early season match-ups in the state, Bolivar Central got 22 markers from Ricky Tisdale (Bolivar Central) and 17 more from O'Neill Woods (Bolivar Central) to slip past the previously unbeaten Choctaws 83-74 and capture the Gibson County Christmas title. Cedric Janes (Dyer County) led Dyer County with 22.

 

Ensworth Holiday Shootout

Ensworth 92

LaVergne 59

True balance and depth are the calling card for this Ensworth squad as they capture the title in their own Holiday Shootout with a 92-59 win over LaVergne. Freshman point guard Cornelius Elder (Ensworth) led the scoring charge with 18 and tourney MVP Daniel McFadden (Ensworth) closed out a fine tourney with 17. Julian Reese (LaVergne) led all scorers with 20.

 

Crockett County Christmas Classic

West Carroll 71

Crockett County 70

Thomas Greer (West Carroll) knocked home two foul shots and finished with a game high 32 points leading his squad to the title against the home team. Greer, who has signed with Austin Peay, has been a terror in the early part of the season averaging in excess of 28 points per game. Joining him in the scoring column was Hayden McClain (West Carroll) with 18. Calvin Fields (Crockett County) led his squad with 18.

 

King of the Bluegrass (5th Place)

Memphis Central 70

Shelby County (KY.) 36

Alan Farmer (Memphis Central) dropped 19 and super sophomore Jarnell Stokes (Memphis Central) added 16 as Central grabbed 5th place at the prestigious King of the Bluegrass tourney in Kentucky with a 70-36 win over Shelby County. Tim Peete (Memphis Central) finished with 11 and was named to the all-tourney squad.

 

Mid-South Classic

Livingston Academy 69

Cookeville 65

Mason Ramsey (Livingston Academy) sank 18 and senior T.J. Smith (Livingston Academy) added 17 as the Hog-Eye pushed past Cookeville to capture the title at the Mid-South Classic with a 69-65 victory. Blake Houston (Cookeville) led all scorers with 15, while Mitchell Hill (Cookeville) added 18.

 

Citizens One Bank Classic (3rd Place)

CBHS 46

Franklin-Simpson (KY.) 43

Frankie Bougher (CBHS) sank 17 points as Christian Brothers raced past Franklin-Simpson 46-43 to take 3rd place at the Citizens One Bank Classic.

 

Venture Express Great 8 Holiday Tournament

Clarksville Northeast 57

Hunter's Lane 54

Jeremy Purvis (Clarksville Northeast) drained a three at the buzzer to give Northeast the title at the Venture Express Great 8 Holiday Tourney at Riverdale with a 57-54 victory over a tough Hunter's Lane squad. Alex Poythress (Clarksville Northeast) finished with 18 points and helped keep Northeast unbeaten on the young season. DeMarco Starling (Hunter's Lane) finished with 16 to lead his squad.

 

Best of Preps (Chattanooga) Title Game

Tyner Academy vs. Howard

Reginald Gilmore (Tyner Academy) and Travis Jones (Tyner Academy) exacted their revenge on McCallie, for an early season upstaging, by dropping 25 points each and besting them to advance to the title game of today's Best of Preps tourney in Chattanooga. Tyner will battle Howard for the crown.
