Pre-Christmas Holiday Events Brings Hoops to the Masses

Pre-Holiday Tournaments dot the hoops landscape as basketball makes it final push in the year 2013. Here are some of the results.

 

 

 

Cleveland East Tennessee Holiday Shootout

A nice grouping of some of the best in East Tennessee ascended on Cleveland Middle School as the High School was in construction disarray for the East Tennessee Holiday Shootout.

Kendrick Thompson (Cleveland) was a monster in Friday action knocking down 35 markers as the Blue Raiders slipped past Dobyns-Bennett 56-55.

In the other Friday night contest Oak Ridge bested Science Hill 63-53 behind 22 from Lee University signee Isaac Merian (Oak Ridge). Calvin Songster (Science Hill) led all scorers in the game with 27 points.

Oak Ridge was at it again on Saturday as the Wildcats used 22 points from Jalin Henderson (Oak Ridge) and 16 from Merian to defeat Dobyns-Bennett 73-63. Devin Stuart (Dobyns-Bennett) led his squad with 14 in defeat.

Science Hill bounced back from their loss to Oak Ridge with a 71-62 win over the host Squad. Songster was huge again knocking in 24 markers for the Hilltoppers. Thompson led Cleveland with 19.

 

Bear Holiday Classic @ Antioch High School

Two day event was quite beneficial for the Rutherford County duo of Blackman and Oakland as both squads won their games in the event.

On Friday, Blackman for 19 from Lukas Hart (Blackman) and a length of the floor slam from junior Juaun Jennings (Blackman) to slip past Nashville Overton 60-57. Will Jennings (Nashville Overton) and Leon Howard (Nashville Overton) each had 18 for Overton.

In the nightcap Oakland bested the host team Antioch 61-40 then capitalized on their moment the next day turning in a 61-41 victory over Nashville Overton. Kyle Oliver (Oakland) led the charge for the Patriots with 18.

Jennings dropped 17 and Hart added 16 as the Blaze torched Antioch 68-43 in the later game on Saturday.

 

Columbia Holiday Event

On day one MBA defeated Franklin 54-43, Shelbyville bested Lancaster Christian 59-43. the host team Columbia Central slid past DicksonCounty 54-53 and sophomore guard Cynterius Lyons (Stewart's Creek) notched 22 points as Stewart's Creek defeated Ravenwood.

On Saturday Ravenwood got on the right side of the ledger behind 21 from Matthew Hailey (Ravenwood) to defeat Shelbyville 74-54.

Dickson County got the win over Stewart's Creek 52-35 and Ashanta Brown (Columbia Central) dropped 22 points as the host team Columbia Central got the victory over Lancaster Christian.

 

Gallatin Holiday Event

Hendersonville got off on the right track besting Westmoreland 49-41 in the opening contest of the Gallatin Holiday Tournament. The host team won the latter contest with a 53-31 win over Northeast.

Jacob McCullough (Hendersonville) dropped 17 the following day as Hendersonville defeated Northeast 54-33.

Devante Williams (Gallatin) scored 18 as the host squad finished the event 2-0 with a win over Westmoreland 44-31.

 

Mt. Juliet Holiday Event

KeVaughn Russell (Hunter's Lane) dropped 27 points as Hunter's Lane took the first game of the Mt. Juliet Holiday Classic 84-77 over LaVergne. Chuckie Sutton (LaVergne) led all scorer's with 29 in the contest.

Brentwood continued its winning ways with a narrow 49-46 victory over the home team in the latter game.

Jacob Adcock (Brentwood) led a balanced scoring attack with 15 as the Bruins moved to 2-0 at the classic with a 69-67 win over LaVergne.

Reagan Johnson (Mt. Juliet) scored 20 as Mt.Juliet bested a determined Hunter's Lane squad 49-46 in the final game of the event.

 

Pope John Paul II Holiday Classic

CPA got a team high 13 points from Georgia Southern signee Jake Allsmiller (CPA) as the balanced attack of the Lions earned them a classic title with a 74-21 victory over the host team PJPII.

Daniel Norl (Kenwood) scored 23 as Kenwood took the third place contest with an easy 77-45 win over Aaron Academy.

White House behind 16 from Jake Smith (White House) slid past Smith County 53-48 to capture the seventh place trophy.

 

Heritage Russell Athletic Christmas Tournament

Jacob Williams (Wilson Central) notched 19 points as Wilson Central defeated Union County to take the inaugural Heritage Russell Athletic Christmas Tournament at Heritage High School in Maryville.

Williams got the event started with a 25 spot in an opening round win over Morristown East. Then added 22 in a second round win over Knoxville Halls.

Union County advanced to the title game with wins over South Greene and Heritage. Brady Nease (Union County) had a big weekend dropping 36 in the win over South Greene and 27 in the close win over Heritage.

Other scoring exploits in the tourney include a 32 point effort for Cory Hensley (Cannon County) in a victory against Morristown East.

Hensley added a 23 point effort in a narrow win over South Greene 78-76. Nick Fillers (South Greene) chipped in with 27 in the loss.
