Post Holiday tournaments are always the rage in our state and after some true detective work I have managed to uncover the details to a great deal of the aforementioned tournaments that graced the hardwoods around the state over the holidays.
MARTIN LION'S CLUB CHRISTMAS TOURNEY (DYERSBURG, TN)
Tennessee signee Robert Hubbs (Dyer County) scored 25 points and captured MVP honors as the Choctaws took the Martin Lion's Club Christmas Tourney with a 75-47 victory over Kenwood.
Daniel Norl (Kenwood) led the Knights with 28 points and 10 rebounds. Joining Hubbs and Norl on the All-Tournament squad were LaMarcus Moseley (Dyer County) and Markeiston Bostic (Dyer County).
GATEWAY HOLIDAY HOOPS CLASSIC (GATEWAY, PA)
Andy Schumpert (Brentwood) dropped 26 points as Brentwood slid past the host team Gateway (PA) to the tune of a 62-42 victory in the championship game of the Gateway Holiday Hoops Classic.
SEYMOUR CHRISTMAS CLASSIC (SEYMOUR, TN)
D.J. Griffin (Seymour) garnered MVP honors as the Eagles finished 3-0 in a round robin setting thus being named champions of the Seymour Christmas Classic. Griffin, who scored 20, in the deciding contest is joined on the All-Tournament squad by Malchi Horton (Morristown West), Matt Smithers (Scott), Kaleb Black (Pigeon Forge), Khris Cooper (Carver), John Hall (Silverdale), Jake McBrayer (Seymour), Peyton Lee (Seymour) and Gunner Gibson (Seymour).
DOC LARSEN HOLIDAY CLASSIC (ALASKA)
The Siegel Stars took to the Great White North for the holidays and came away with 3 quality wins in the Doc Larsen Holiday Classic in snowy Alaska. Robert Brandon (Siegel) scored 20 as Siegel blasted Colony (AK) 81-61 in the opening game. Brandon got hot with 28 and Ryan Jones (Siegel) added 26 as Siegel pummeled Bartlett (AK) 88-65. Charles Clark (Siegel) got into the scoring act with 24 as the Stars bested Xavier 67-57 in their third contest. Brandon added 16 in the victory.
MARLIN CHRISTMAS CLASSIC (PANAMA CITY, FL)
FRA made short work of the field at the Marlin Christmas Classic posting a 3-0 record and a 72-55 championship game demolition over Starr Mill (GA) to capture the title. Rob Marberry (FRA) led the scoring with 19 in the title game. He was joined in the scorebook by Kessler Bell (FRA) with 15 and Chance Bouldin (FRA) with 11.
Marberry got things off to a rousing start with 17 in the opening game drubbing of Wren (SC) to the tune of 59-31. Bell and Bouldin scored 18 points each as FRA smashed Meade County 69-38 in the semi-final round. Marberry added 11 to the victory celebration.
NASHVILLE OVERTON CHRISTMAS TOURNEY (NASHVILLE, TN)
Terry Holt (East Nashville) scored 28 markers as East Nashville rode past the host squad Nashville Overton 70-48 to capture the Nashville Overton Christmas Classic crown. Ivan Alsup (Nashville Overton) led the Bobcats with 17.
ST. BENEDICT'S HOLIDAY HOOP TOURNAMENT
Trevor Jackson (Bolton) and Chris Taylor (Bolton) scored 22 and 21 respectively as Bolton defeated Millington Central 61-57 to capture the crown at the St. Benedict's Holiday Hoop Tourney. El Paso Johnson (Millington Central) scored 21 in the loss.
SUPER 16 @ BEARDEN (KNOXVILLE, TN)
Brady Smith (Bearden) notched 23 points and captured MVP honors as the Bulldogs pulled away to a big victory over Wilson Central in the title game of the Super 16 Tournament at Bearden.
Jefferson County got 17 points from John Bryant (Jefferson County) as the Patriots slid past Cleveland in the third place game 66-59. CAK bested Cloudland in the fifth pace contest while Carter defeated South Doyle behind 20 points from Charles Mitchell (Carter) in the seventh place contest.
Joining Smith on the glitter squad were Sam Greene (Bearden) Adarius Wilson (Bearden), Oterriah Lee (CAK), Brett Kendrick (CAK), Jacob Williams (Wilson Central) and John Bryant (Jefferson County).
WHITE COUNTY SONIC SHOOTOUT (SPARTA, TN)
Emmanuel Smith (Oakland) scored 17 points as Oakland got past the host squad White County 49-37 and was crowned champions of the White County Sonic Shootout.
JOE MARTEN'S GREAT 8 CLASSIC (KENTUCKY)
Cameron Payne (Lausanne) scored 25 points as the lynx defeated Louisville Male (KY) 69-61 in the title game of the Joe Marten's Great 8 Classic.
BEST OF PREPS (CHATTANOOGA, TN)
Jamaal Calvin (McCallie) scored 28 points and captured MVP honors as McCallie bested heated rival Baylor 63-57 to win the Best of Prep title at Chattanooga State. Jorden Williams (McCallie) added 12 in the win. Matt Clendenen (Baylor) and Clay Born (Baylor) scored 18 and 14 respectively for Baylor.
Stedman Ford (Notre Dame) notched 26 points as Notre Dame flew past Ooltewah 96-78 to take the third place game at the Best of Prep event. Jacqueze Robinson (Ooltewah) led the Owls with 25.
Joining Calvin on the All-Tournament squad were Williams, Clendenen, Born, Ford, Robinson, Hall Allen (Boyd Buchanan) and Donovan Jones (Chattanooga Patriots).
CLORINE EDWARDS CLASSIC (MEMPHIS, TN)
DreSean Looney (Southwind) scored 27 as the Jaguars handled Hamilton 87-62 at the one day Clorine Edwards Classic in Memphis. Johnathan Williams (Southwind) added 23 in the victory. Dedric Lawson (Hamilton) led his squad with 20 followed by his brother Keelon Lawson (Hamilton) with 19.
In the days other contest Khalil Spencer (Mitchell) scored 17 as the Tigers got past Memphis East 62-54. Nick King (Memphis East) led all scorers with 23 in the loss.
BEECH CHRISTMAS TOURNEY (HENDERSONVILLE, TN)
DeAnthony Patrick (McGavock) scored 16 points and took home MVP honors as McGavock defeated Giles County 53-30 to bring home the crown at the annual Beech Christmas Tourney.
Centennial, behind 21 points from Matt Pond (Centennial), defeated the host squad Beech 62-58 to capture the third pace contest despite 31 points from Phillip Baites (Beech).
WATERTOWN HOLIDAY TOURNAMENT (WATERTOWN, TN)
Jacob Saunders (Cheatham County) scored 28 points and brought home the MVP hardware as Cheatham County claimed victory 81-42 at the Watertown Holiday Tournament. Saunders, who also had a 25 points effort in an earlier victory, was joined on the All-Tournament squad by Billy Thomas (Cheatham County), Mason Bates (Cheatham County) and Jordan Darden (Cheatham County).
WILDCAT CLASSIC (HIXSON, TN)
Devann Swafford (Chattanooga Central) scored 16 points and led the Pounders to a 53-51 victory over the host school Hixson at the Wildcat Classic. D'Monta Smith (Hixson) led all scorers with 18.
ALPHA CLASSIC (VIRGINIA)
Ryan Gaitor (Daniel Boone) gathered MVP honors scoring 19 points as Daniel Boone captured the Alpha Classic with a 61-40 victory over Estill County.
NEW PEOPLE'S BANK CLASSIC (KINGSPORT, TN)
Ryan Hendrick (Sullivan South) scored 21 points as Sullivan South drifted past Sullivan North 73-62 to capture the crown at the New People's Bank Classic.
ARBY'S CLASSIC (BRISTOL, TN)
Memphis Melrose defeated The Christ School 57-53 to capture 3rd place at the prestigious Arby's Classic in Bristol. Jamerio Jones (Melrose) and Marlon Hunter (Melrose) scored 17 each for Melrose.
Cory Fagan (Oak Ridge) and Isaac Merian (Oak Ridge) scored 13 and 11 respectively as Oak Ridge took the 5th place game with a 48-33 victory over Dobyns-Bennett.
Science Hill defeated Father Henry Carr from Canada 84-73 to take the 7th place contest behind 22 points from C.J. Good (Science Hill) and 19 from Will Adams (Science Hill).
FATHER RYAN HOLIDAY CLASSIC (NASHVILLE, TN)
Jamonte Davis (Hillsboro) scored 27 points and snatched MVP honors as the Burros defeated Independence 73-62 to take the Father Ryan Holiday Classic in Nashville. Vic Wharton (Independence) scored 17 in the loss.
Charles Sutton (LaVergne) scored 26 as LaVergne bested Mt. Juliet 78-67 in the 3rd place contest.
HICKMAN COUNTY ABOVE THE RIM CLASSIC (CENTERVILLE, TN)
Darius Thompson (Blackman) scored 24 points and took home MVP honors as the Blaze remained unbeaten with an 88-61 victory over Waverly Central in the championship tilt of the Hickman County Above the Rim Classic. Austin Mullinax (Waverly Central) and J'Honathan Smith (Waverly Central) each scored 18 in the loss.
RENASANT BANK HOLIDAY TOURNAMENT (MARYVILLE, TN)
Maryville behind balanced scoring led by Clark McCall (Maryville) and T.J. Kimble (Maryville), defeated Fulton 53-38 to capture the crown at the Renasant Bank Holiday Tournament on their home floor. Micah "Oh My" Goss (Fulton) led the Falcons with 12.
