Here is our weekly list of the top scoring performances in the state, separated by East, Middle and West Tennessee distinction. One of our favorite features as relayed to me by numerous college coaches of all levels.
This is also the forum to announce milestones including 1,000 point scoring efforts and such. Please let me know if we miss any of that information. You can email me at andre@tnprephoops.com.
My intent is to post this list every Monday or Tuesday throughout the season.
DeMarco Steele (Hillwood) has played a huge role in lifting Hillwood to the cusp of the state rankings. The senior leader had quite the week scoring 27 in a win over Antioch then adding another 27 in a victory over Glencliff before closing the week with 15 points in a win over Nashville Central Christian.
Nathan Hoover (Arlington) had an epiphany. You could see it in his eyes as his Arlington team battled against Chicago Simeon at the Penny. No longer just a standstill shooter, Hoover was going to the basket, hard, and making himself a better player. Need more evidence how about a 32 spot against Cordova to start the week.
Milestones were achieved in Middle Tennessee this past week starting with Tripp Davis (Lighthouse Christian) who topped the 2,000 point barrier for his career. In metro Nashville Jordan Sandifer (Pearl Cohn) etched his name in sand script surpassing the 1,000 point mark for his career with the Firebirds.
Jaylen Fisher (Bolton) has always been a name atop the Class of 2016 discussion. The junior point guard has been scoring the ball a bit more as of late including a sterling 33 point effort this week against Millington Central.
Down Chattanooga way a name continues to appear on our weekly scoring list, that name is Tyler Byrd (Notre Dame). The rising junior wing had a solid week scoring 25 points against Signal Mountain then topping the effort with 31 against Bledsoe County.
Garrison Mathews (Franklin) is beginning to light up the scoreboards around Nashville. The Lipcomb signee had a monumental week scoring 28 points against Independence and surpassing the 1,000 point barrier for his career.
Justin Bowlin (Jellico) is a player many people West of Knoxville may not be familiar with. The senior point guard is the unofficial all-time assist leader in the state of Tennessee. Bowlin was at his best this week in the scoring department dropping 39 points on Oliver Springs.
Darian Pride (Community) christened his entrance to the scoring list with a week he will remember for always. Pride began the week dropping 32 points on Huntland before adding another 32 point effort against Houston County.
John Payne (Goodpasture) is putting the final touches on a fine senior season. Payne surpassed the 1,000 point mark for his career after a huge week that included a 26 point effort against Harpeth, a 34 point barrage against Merrol Hyde and finally a 28 point game against Pickett County.
