The big boys run to the top.
Bearden, Ridgeway and Siegel all had substantial victories in Week #3 Game of the Week contests around the state.
West Tennessee Game of the Week
Balanced scoring led by Corieon Pierson (Ridgeway) with 16 helped the Roadrunners of Ridgeway stave off a talented Manassas squad in the finale of the Larry Finch Classic. Ridgeway already appears to be in mid-season form and that certainly spells doom for the rest of the Memphis scene. Shaq Walker (Manassas) led game high scoring honors with 21.
Middle Tennessee Game of the Week
Outstanding battle in the opening round of the Riverdale Classic saw Emmanuel "EA Sports" Andrews (Shelbyville) rim out a three from the top of the key and the Stars of Siegel etched out the win over the Eagles.
Kerry Hammonds (Siegel) was special for the Stars finishing with a game high 27 and getting valuable points late to lead his squad. Andrews finished with 22 for the 'ville while senior point guard Deonta Twilley (Shelbyville) added 21.
East Tennessee Game of the Week
My friends it doesn't get much bigger than this in the East. Demonte Simpson (Bearden) scored 15 to lead a well balanced scoring output and helped the Bulldogs slip past a determined Falcons squad in the championship game of the Super 16.
Simpson, joined by teammates Dustin Craig, Nathan Parker and MVP Gabriel Campbell on the All-Tournament squad, overcame a furious Fulton comeback to capture the win.
Jalen Steele (Fulton) and MTSU signee James Gallman (Fulton) both finished with 16 points and were also named to the glitter squad.
The first of the Bearden five and the 15th player in the Class of 2009 has decided on his college decision.
Dustin Craig (Bearden) the 6'5 wing will attend the Air Force Academy.
Craig, a 6'5 wing, is the first of his peers at state power Bearden to make his decision as he heads to the Mountain West to play for Coach Jeff Reynolds.
Craig, who played this summer for the Mid-State Ballerz, showed he could compete on a national level and he chose the Falcons over a couple of other offers.
Now to the business at hand the Bulldogs will be playing in the second round of the prestigious Arbys Clasic before embarking on a run at the state.
This under the radar senior had a solid week leading BTW to two big victories and keeping them unblemished in 2008.
He dropped 31 against Sheffield in our West Tennessee Game of the Week before closing things out with an additional 31 against Oakhaven.
What can we say, Drew Kelly (Centennial) loves it in Kentucky.
Last week the Miami of Ohio signee scored 45 points against Madisonville North Hopkins and this week at the King of the Bluegrass the senior broke the tourney record in an overtime loss to Dorsey High of California dropping 67 including 65 in regulation.
This total surpasses the 58 put up by scoring phenom John Jenkins (Station Camp) a couple of weeks ago.
Middle Tennessee was rich in scoring outbursts this past week as Emmanuel Andrews (Shelbyville) and Judah Akers (Cookeville) both had wonderful scoring weeks.
Andrews dropped 28 against Clarksville on Saturday after scoring 36 against Northeast earlier in the week. Akers went off with 36 against Lebanon, 32 against Collierville and 33 against Livingston Academy, all at the MidSouth Classic.
