The Holy Triumvirate.
Your asking what this is, well let me explain capturing that elusive state title, being named MVP and for good measure adding a Mr. Basketball trophy to your resume.
Well if you ask Holden Mobley (MBA) two out three ain't bad.
Mobley sank 16 points and garnered MVP honors as MBA defeated CBHS 53-47 to bring home the gold ball.
MBA held a close 34-33 lead after three quarters after Chris Deanes (CBHS), the hero of last night's game, slithered in for a driving lay-in at the buzzer to bring the Purple Wave to within one.
Mobley converted a sic backdoor cut into a 40-36 lead then knocked down a deep three after a timeout to push the MBA advantage to 43-36.
Mobley finished with 16 and was joined in the scoring column by up and coming sophomore big man David Howard (MBA) with 10.
MBA had balanced scoring and effort in both state tourney games, Chase Owen (MBA) and Tyler Paslick (MBA) gave outstanding effort on both sides of the ball.
Sophomore guard Austin Blackwell (MBA), despite playing on a bad ankle, converted a huge lay-up late in the game and gave quality minutes on the defensive side of the ball.
Chris Bunkley (CBHS) led the Wave with 11 and Mr. Basketball finalist Frankie Bougher (CBHS) added 10.
Joining Mobley on the all-tournament squad were Howard, Bougher, Deanes, Paslick, Daniel McFadden (Ensworth) and Jordan Price (McCallie).
Following the game, Jordan Price (McCallie) was selected as Mr. Basketball for DII/Class AA. The sophomore won the coveted trophy over seniors Mobley and Bougher.
