Memphis YOMCA Chewing up EYBL Competition

The Memphis YOMCA rolled up five wins this past weekend as Session #2 of the Nike EYBL took place at the Fieldhouse USA in Dallas.

 

The YOMCA currently stands tied with BABC for the top spot in Division B at 9-1 after two sessions.

 

In the opener, balance was on the docket with Jarnell "The One Man Gang" Stokes (Memphis Central) leading the way with 13 points. Anthlon Bell (Bartlett) chipped in with 12 markers and Shaq Goodwin (Georgia) and Martavious Newby (BTW) each added 10 points as the YOMCA doused the King James Shooting Stars 72-57.

 

Stokes banged 28 points as the YOMCA won game two 59-49 over Team Texas Titans, Goodwin added 17 for the YOMCA.

 

Stokes continues to dominate dropping 19 as the YOMCA move to 3-0 in the session with a 73-57 win over the Metro Hawks. Bell added 12 points and Newby finished with 11.

 

4-0 is the mark as the YOMCA rolls over the Charlotte Royals 74-66 behind 20 from Stokes, 16 from Markel Crawford (Melrose) and 12 from Goodwin.

 

Five players land in double digits as the YOMCA finishes the session 5-0 with a huge win over BABC 81-78 knocking them from the ranks of the unbeaten and placing themselves into a tie at 9-1 in the B Division.

 

Stokes led with 20 points, Bell added 15, Goodwin and Newby landed on 12 and super sophomore Sam Craft (Craigmont) finished with 11.

 

The Tennessee Travelers played well but couldn't put together a string of wins in this session of the EYBL finishing at 1-4 for the weekend.

 

The Travs got a forfeit win in their opener against the Metro Hawks before falling to Team Takeover in a tough one 74-69 in game two.

 

Craig Bradshaw (CPA) led the scoring charge with 14, James Scales (Cherokee) added 13, while Jalen Lindsey (CPA) scored 12 and Carson Brooks (Knoxville West) finished with 11 markers.

 

Game #3 saw the Travelers fall 88-48 to the Oakland Soldiers. Montrae Williams (Spring Hill) and Darryl Hicks (Kentucky) led the scoring with 11 points each.

 

In a very tight contest up until the final buzzer the Travs fall to Howard Pulley 61-56 despite 16 from Bradshaw and 12 from Hicks.

 

In the weekends final contest the Travs fall to the very tough Spiece squad 81-43. Lindsey leads the scoring with 13 points.

 

Playing for the Georgia Stars, Alex Poythress (Northeast) helped his team finish 4-1 on the weekend and managed double digits in every contest. He scored 12 in a win over ICP-Portland followed up with 12 more against Nike Team Florida in a victory then managed 17 markers in a big win over the New York Gauchos.

 

Poythress scored his weekend high of 18 in the team's only loss to CIA Bounce and finished up with 14 points in a victory over Athlete's First.

 

Stokes, Poythress and Goodwin remain among the top 10 in various categories on the EYBL leader boards.
