As it stands right now it looks as though......Memphis rules Augusta.
Two major events are taking place in the greater Augusta area, the Nike Peach Jam and the always entertaining Peach State Showcase.
Memphis is taking charge of both with Team Penny off to a rousing 3-1 start at the Peach Jam and Team Thad roughing up the competition at 5-0 at the Peach State.
At the EYBL, Team Penny got things started with a 59-55 victory over Mokan Elite. Dedric Lawson (Hamilton) is stamping his name among the very best in the nation in the Class of 2016 with a sic 18 point and 15 rebound effort in the win. Keelon Lawson (Hamilton) added 17 for Memphis.
Victim #2 the New York Lightning fell by the wayside to the tune of 74-61 behind 24 from K.J. Lawson. Kevaughn Allen (Arkansas) added 17, young Lawson punched in 15 and Missouri signee Anton Beard (Arkansas) added 12.
Allen led the charge with 20 but Team Penny came up on the short end of a 87-80 decision to the Spiece Indy Heat. Dedric Lawson finished with 18, Beard added 15 and K.J. Lawson chipped in with 13.
Dedric Lawson turned things around in a hurry notching 28 markers as Team Penny rebounded from their first loss with a 75-71 win over Team Final. K.J. Lawson finished with 16 and Allen added 10.
Over on the other side of town, Team Thad has exerted maximum force and is making short work of everyone and everything at the Peach State Showcase.
Standing at 5-0 including a monster win over the Atlanta Express behind a dazzling display of hoops from Leron Black (White Station). Mr. Black finished with 23 points and 11 boards in that contest. The Upwards Stars felt the surge of Team Thad this afternoon as they fell to the powerful Memphis entity.
Playing well for Team Thad a multitude of hoopers including Riley Norris (Alabama), C.J. Anderson (Whitehaven), recent Ole Miss commitment Marcanvis Hymon (Whitehaven) and Florida signee Chris Chiozza (White Station).
Coaches were quick to applaud the efforts of rising sophomore guard Jaylen Fischer (Arlington).
