Memphis Magic Open Real Deal with a Win

Pool play at the Real Deal in the Rock is never an easy predicament.

Taking on Grassroots Canada is even tougher.

Chris Jones (Melrose) scored 15 but it was the timely scoring and tenatious defense of Andre Hollins (White Station) that brought the Magic back from a deficit and lifted them to a 54-42 victory over a very good Grassroots Canada squad in the late night game to open the 2010 Real Deal in the Rock.

Hollins finished with 9 points but his baseline jumper with 9 minutes left in the second half tied the game at 36 and then a flurry of buckets from Martavious Newby (BTW), Adonis Thomas (Melrose) and Nino Johnson (White Station) helped the Magic pull away for good.

Hollins did an outstanding job on nationally ranked point guard Myck Kabongo of Grassroots causing him to not play his normal intelligent game and fouling him out with a frustration shove late in the contest.

Cameron Golden (Ridgeway) added 7 and Newby finished with 8 points for the Magic.
