Memphis Melrose got some clutch foul shooting from "Mighty" Chris Jones (Melrose) and staved off a furious Greater Atlanta Christian comeback to post a 55-50 victory and capture the crown at the 27th annual Arby's Classic in Bristol.
Jones, who was selected as the tourney's MVP, finished as the Golden Wildcats top scorer with 12 and junior phenom Adonis Thomas (Melrose) was the only other Melrose player in double digits with 11 points and 16 boards.
Melrose moves to 16-0 on the season with district action beginning for real next week.
In the semi-final contest Jones exploded for 32 points as Melrose ran past McEachern and Tennessee signee Trae Golden 83-62.
Jones was outstanding in every facet of the game and finished with double digit boards and a handful of timely assists as well.
Thomas added 18, while Northern Illinois signee Nate Rucker (Melrose) and junior Bobby Parks Jr. (Melrose) added 14 apiece.
