The high school season gets under way this Saturday with a
bevy of play days all around the state.
One of the best events is the annual Liberty Tech Play Day.
Games will be played from 9:00 till 3:30 at Liberty Tech
High School and North
Parkway Elementary
School in Jackson.
Featured teams include:
Maplewood
and their senior duo of Robert Wade and
Fred Lee.
Ridgeway and Mr. Basketball candidate Tarik Black along with seniors Justin
Maclin, Darryl Marshall and Marterrace Brock. Keep a look out for rising
sophomore point guard Cameron Golden.
Beech and their inside/outside duo of seniors, Reece Chamberlain and John Taylor. A
key to the Beech success this season will be senior guard Valentino Bryant.
Craigmont features high flying junior guard Cedric McAfee and the mysterious Terrence Durham.
Bolivar Central and a dynamic guard tandem of Jay Murphy and Ricky Tisdale. This
should be breakout year for rising junior Demetrics
Whitehorn.
The host team Liberty Tech will run with a talented and deep
group led by seniors Tarius Johnson and
Cordero Williams. Their success will hinge on the small but broad shoulders
of junior point Kendall Anthony.
One of the surprises in the Memphis area this season will be the
emergence of Southwind. A deep roster led by seniors Walter Davis, Montez Fifer and Nick Mason. Junior guard Darrious Paige will have the ball in
his hands and look for some valuable minutes for incoming freshman phenom Johnathan "J3" Williams.
Also participating in the event will be Memphis Southside, Covington and Union
City.
