Jackson Lights ‘Em Up in Cleveland Rocky Top (Week #2 Results)

Week #2 of the Rocky Top High School Fall League in Cleveland tipped off with some outstanding performances. Let's get to the action.

 

UConn 104

Syracuse 73

Rokas Paulauskas (Hamilton Heights) led five players in double digits as UConn raised their season record to 2-0 with a 104-73 victory over Syracuse. A close game in the first half got out of hand as Pauluaskas, Kendrick Thompson (Cleveland), who finished with 23 and Dustin Little (Cleveland), who added 22 markers, led the furious second half charge. John Hall (Silverdale Academy) was big scoring 16 points while D'Monta Smith (Hixson) added 10 in the victory.

Clynt Bell (Georgia) had the hot hand for Syracuse scoring a game high 29 points in the loss. Ben Smider (Ooltewah) added 19 and freshman Skyler Steinmetz (Oakdale) finished with 11. The loss drops Syracuse to 1-1 on the young season.

 

Florida 85

Auburn 73

Florida raised its season record to 2-0 behind the yeoman inside work of Taylor Hawkins (Sequoyah). Hawkins was a beast on the glass, especially offensively and finished with 24 points in the win. He was joined in the scoring column by Taylor Bentley (Bradley Central) with 18, Steadman Ford (Notre Dame) with 13 and Walker McGowan (Bradley Central) with 12.

The Florida victory offset an outstanding performance from junior guard Levi Woods (Meigs County) who finished with a game high 30 markers in the loss. Tucker Godfrey (Walker Valley) added 12 as Auburn slipped to 1-1.

 

Louisville 79

Marquette 68

Marquis Tipton (Brainerd) and Jorden Williams (McCallie) each netted 17 points as Louisville disposed of Marquette 79-68 in Rocky Top League action at Cleveland High School this past Saturday.

Alex Watkins (Tyner Academy) played on both ends of the floor scoring a double/double with 10 points and a dozen caroms. Justus McMillan (Boyd Buchanan) added 9 points including some timely scores for Louisville.

Jamaal Calvin (McCallie) was large in defeat as the rising senior scored 30 points despite Marquette dropping to 0-2 on the young campaign. Anfernee Scott (Cleveland) added 11 points in the loss. Tristan Spradling (Meigs County) finished with 9 points for Marquette.  

 

Tennessee 72

Vanderbilt 51

Antonio Jackson (Ooltewah) took scoring honors for the day as the senior guard dropped 35 points and helped lead Tennessee to a 72-51 victory over Vanderbilt. The win moved Tennessee to 1-1 on the new campaign. Ty Presley (Ooltewah) hit several deep threes and finished with 13 points in the win.

Jahmal Johnson (Cleveland) had a big game scoring 27 points.

Vanderbilt overcame a huge halftime deficit with a big 15-0 scoring run to begin the second half led by Johnson, Lannom Sowell (Signal Mountain) and B.J. Wilkerson (Signal Mountain).

The loss drops Vanderbilt to 0-2.
