Its basketball time my friends and as always I am criss crossing the state to bring you all the information that I can gather. Here is the first run of our weekly state scoring list that has become one of the most enjoyed features that we present.
This first list will be ultra long encompassing the 1st few weeks of the season as everyone gets their gridiron stars acclimated to their hoops scheme.
College coaches have told me this is their favorite segment as they can see who is doing what in all three segments of the hoops landscape in the state of Tennessee.
So sit back and lets present the list.
John Carter (Summit) wants to put the word out early that his Summit squad is for real. Standing unbeaten at press time the rising junior has been a scoring force with games of 26 against Lawrence County, 27 against Hunter's Lane, 31 versus Columbia Central, 34 against Page, 28 against Lincoln County and finally a 28 spot against Riverdale.
Down in Chattanooga, Malik McConnell (Red Bank) is off to a blazing start. The rising senior guard has games of 30 against Sale Creek, another 30 spot against Sequatchie County, yet another 30 against Ooltewah and a 32 marker against Soddy Daisy.
Casting the first ballot for the Class AAA Mr. Basketball award is Nathan Hoover (Arlington). The Wofford signee is off to a rousing start with 32 against Bolivar Central, 29 against Fayette-Ware, 30 more against Ridgeway and finally a 32 spot against Houston.
Austin Douglas (Cheatham County) started his senior campaign with a bang passing the 1,000 point barrier with games of 25 against Spring Hill, 37 against Rossview and 42 against Creek Wood.
Miles Thomas (South Doyle) is making things happen in East Tennessee. The Tennessee Tech signee got out of the gates in first with a 28 point game against Science Hill and a 26 spot in a win over district favorite Jefferson County.
Antonio Reed (Douglass) is doing his best to make the Memphis folks forget LaGerald Vick. So far Reed is off to a huge start with games of 34 against Hillcrest, 27 against Raleigh-Egypt, 28 against Carver and 46 against KIPP.
Congrats to Dustin Day (David Crockett) forever in the record books for passing the 1,000 point barrier. Also passing the coveted 1,000 point mark is Arkansas-Fort Smith signee Kyree Elder (Cane Ridge) with games of 33 against CPA and 29 against Ravenwood.
Nick Hopkins (Fayetteville) put his name in Fayetteville folklore surpassing the 2,000 point barrier in his career with a trio of big games including 26 against Coffee County, 30 against Richland and a huge 51 spot against Marshall County.
Not to be out done, Austin Fisher (Clarksville Academy) is off to a huge start in his junior season with games of 28 against Merrol Hyde, 31 against Greenbrier, 32 against White House-Heritage and finally a 38 spot against Davidson Academy.
