Holiday Classic Results from Around the State

Holiday classics dotted the frozen landscape the past week; here are some of the results for the tourneys we could ascertain.

 

 

Memphis/Atlanta Classic

Southwind finished a perfect 3-0 with wins over Tucker (65-45), Chamblee (87-59) and SW DeKalb (76-48), with Darrian Gray (Southwind)  scoring 24, 21 and 21 again in the three victories.

 

Ridgeway also captured a couple of nice wins, 60-54 over Westlake with Marterrace Brock (Ridgeway) netting 15 and Kris Brewer (Ridgeway) adding 14 and 71-57 over Fayette County behind 17 from Brewer and 15 from Brock.

 

Carbondale Holiday Invitational

Bartlett bested University High-Chicago 51-39 to capture the crown behind 17 points from Anthlon Bell (Bartlett) and 13 from Marquarius Boddie (Bartlett).

 

Beech Christmas Tournament

Nick Ross (Red Bank) sank 22 and Kelvin Clay (Red Bank) added 20 to lift Red Bank past Bolton 65-63 in the championship game of the Beech Christmas Tournament. Johnny Dunavent (Bolton) took game high honors with 25 and had an outstanding tournament all around. Dunavent scored 26 in a victory over the host school including a game winner. Drew Hildreth (Bolton) added 12.

 

 

Lenoir City Christmas Classic

Tyler Hood (Lenoir City) scored 18 points and the Panthers staved off a determined Hardin Valley squad to capture the crown at their own tourney with a 59-50 victory. Hood, who has signed with Samford, was absolutely outstanding the entire tourney, scoring a school record 46 in the opener and a nice 34 point effort in the semi-final. Dylan Powers (Lenoir City) added 13 and Jared Hilton (Lenoir City) chipped in with 11. Dominic Ratliff (Hardin Valley) scored a game high 20 points as his squad scored two big wins to get to the title game. Those wins incidentally were the first two wins in the new schools history, so congrats to the staff and players at Hardin Valley, you are now officially on your way.

 

 

New Peoples Bank Holiday Classic

Sam Tarlton (David Crockett) abused the nets for 32 markers and led his squad to the crown with a 63-49 win over Hampton. Ty Shipley (David Crockett) and Joe Barger (David Crockett) added 12 each in the win. Nathaniel Hughes (Hampton) led his team with 12.

 

 

Friendship Christian Holiday Tourney

Ryan Gentle (FRA) scored 19 points as FRA got past Cascade 58-43 to capture the Friendship Christian Holiday Classic crown. Tate Tarvaglini (FRA) added 14 in the win. Matt Henderson (Cascade) and Jared Carkuff (Cascade) finished with 11 and 10 respectively for Cascade.

 

 

Rock Holiday Classic (Orlando, FL.)

Holden Mobley (MBA) led the charge with 17 points as MBA bested Cleveland 66-63 to snag the Rock Island Classic crown in the home of the giant mouse. Austin Blackwell (MBA) added 12 in the win.

 

 

Mike Kehoe Great 8 Tournament (Jefferson City, MO.)

Jarnell Stokes (Memphis Central) dangled 17 points and helped Central get past Midwest City (OK.) 75-59 and capture the title in the Mike Kehoe Great 8 Tournament in Missouri. Alan Farmer (Memphis Central) added 14, while Cameron Clear (Memphis Central) chipped in with 12 and Andre Applewhite (Memphis Central) finished with 11.

 

 

Alcorn Central Holiday Tournament (Corinth, MS.)

A.J. Cunningham (Cordova) made his presence felt in the Magnolia state scoring 24 points leading Cordova to a 66-48 victory over Center Hill in the Alcorn Central Holiday Classic.

 

 

Martin Lion's Club Tournament

Five players scored in double digits as the Choctaws made short work of the host team besting them 99-67 to capture the crown at the Martin Lion's Club Holiday Tourney. Ty Kennedy (Dyer County) led the scoring brigade with 17, followed by Cedric Janes (Dyer County) with 15, Fred Yarbrough (Dyer County) added 13, finally John Hudson (Dyer County) and Cedarius Taylor (Dyer County) both finished with 10.

 

 

Overton Christmas Classic

Mookie Betts (Overton) led a foursome of double digit scorers as Overton captured their home holiday event with a 75-64 victory over David Lipscomb. Betts, who would finish with 21 was joined in the scoring column by classmate Justin Perry (Overton) with 18 and gridiron star Dezmond Johnson (Overton) with 14. Blake Bell (Lipscomb) almost single handedly kept Lipsomb in the contest with a game high 31 markers.

 

 

JCS Holiday Classic

Daniel Sears (JCS) led a very balanced attack as JCS gained the crown in their own holiday classic with a 52-48 win over Wayne County. Tyler Rice (Wayne County) led all scorers with 18.

 

 

Hickman County Holiday Classic

Telvin James (Clarksville Northeast) continues the torrid start to his senior campaign scoring 20 points and keeping his squad unblemished on the season with a 68-44 victory over CPA for the Hickman County crown. James was joined in the scoring column by sophomore sensation Alex Poythress (Clarksville Northeast) with 13. Matt Zelenik (CPA) led CPA with 16. Class of 2014 future phenom Jalen Lindsey (CPA) added 12.

 

 

USN Holiday Classic

Meiko Lyles (USN) proved to a man among boys, scoring 38 points and leading USN past Nashville Central Christian 57-53.

 

 

Father Ryan Christmas Classic

The word is finally out, yes Jamal Hughes (Oakland) can play. The Oakland senior netted 28 points and helped lift Oakland past Centennial 61-50 to garner the Father Ryan Christmas Classic crown. Ryan Bristol (Centennial) also scored 28 in the loss.

 

 

Quick note: Jason Steele (Johnson County) was named to the All-Tournament squad at the Bluffton Bobcat Classic as his squad took fourth. Steele scored 22 in the final game.

Lester Wilson (Carter) proved to be the toast of South Carolina scoring 36, 31 and 25 points in his three games at the Christmas in the Corner event in Mouncks.

Tyler Vittetoe (Union County) was a scoring sensation dropping 29 against the Chattanooga Patriots and leading his squad to a 3-0 run at the Union County Discount Pharmacy Classic.
