Games tipped off at the Pilot Rocky Top High School Fall League Cleveland this weekend with some come from behind rallies and some big time scoring from one Chattanooga youngster.
Tennessee 72
Florida 65
D.J. Bowles (Cleveland) got off to a blistering start dropping 24 points and leading Tennessee to a 72-65 victory over Florida in the day's opening contest. The game was a see-saw battle with Florida leading 35-28 at the break and holding a small lead with less than two minutes remaining before a quick 10-0 Tennessee run sealed the deal.
Leo Born (Baylor) added 14 points in the victory.
Cordell James (McCallie) put on a nice show in his battle with Bowles. Two of the areas best scorers went head to head and did not disappoint. James finished with 19 points. He was joined in the scoring column by Ronzell Robinson (Cleveland) with 14 and Darian Johnson (Bradley Central) with 10 markers.
Villanova 87
Marquette 81
Justus McMillan (Boyd Buchanan) exploded for a game high 27 points as Villanova withstood a furious Marquette rally to get them in the end 87-81. Villanova put five guys in double digits led by McMillan. Josh Coleman (Rhea County) added 15, Jordan Kurtz (CSAS) banged out 13 while Carter Clark (Rhea County) and Kendrick Thompson (Cleveland) both stopped on 10 in the big win.
Josh Green (Georgia) and Jamal Worthington (Bledsoe County) came on really strong late but not hold off the Villanova surge. Green finished the day with 23 points, while Worthington held tight at 16 points. Cameron Colverd (Bledsoe County) finished with 11 points in the close loss.
Alabama 88
Auburn 78
Jervon Johnson (Ooltewah) put his inaugural stamp on this game finishing with a game high 30 points and helping Alabama slide past a depleted Auburn team 88-78. Johnson kept Auburn at bay most of the game as the furious comeback fell just short at the end.
Eric Traylor (East Ridge) finished with 17 points and Dustin Little (Cleveland) added 12. Hall Allen (Boyd Buchanan) put down 11 in the victory.
Preston Russell (Tellico Plains) led Auburn with 27 points while Jamaal Calvin (McCallie) put down 23 in the close loss.
Louisville 94
Syracuse 61
Chris Green (East Ridge) put the bar high as the young man from Chattanooga busted out for 47 points leading Louisville past Syracuse 94-61. Green was assisted in the scoring column by Frank Brogdan (CSAS) with 17 points and Jarrod Rhodes (Cleveland) with 14.
Justin Ragsdale (Silverdale Academy) led Syracuse with 22 points. Logan Brewer (Polk County) added 15 in the loss.
Vanderbilt 87
Connecticut 80
Alfonzo Cox (East Ridge) and Steadman Ford (Notre Dame) scored 19 and 16 points respectively leading Vanderbilt to a cross-division victory over UConn 87-80. Despite being undermanned Vanderbilt was able to pull off the victory.
UConn placed four players in double digits including Xavier Cummings (Red Bank) with 19, Hunter Chastain (Bradley Central) added 18, C.J. Reese (McCallie) finished with 12 while Miles Morgan (Bradley Central) managed 11 of his own.
