Corn Elder (Ensworth) scored 20 of his 24 points in the second half and garnered MVP honors for the second year as Ensworth defeated Briarcrest 61-52 to win the DII Class AA state championship.
Elder along with his teammates had a miserable shooting perfomance in the first half. Elder changed his shoes to the ones he wore in the Father Ryan game and all of sudden the points started to flow.
Nathan Watkins (Ensworth) chipped in with 20 points for the Tigers.
Austin Nichols (Braircrest) finished with 26 points on 12 of 15 shooting and for his troubles was named Mr. Basketball in DII Class AA.
Nichols averaged 28 points per game in the state tourney and is one of the most highly recruited players in the vaunted Class of 2013 in the state of Tennessee.
