Here is our weekly list of the top scoring performances in the state, separated by East, Middle and West Tennessee distinction. One of our favorite features as relayed to me by numerous college coaches of all levels.
This is also the forum to announce milestones including 1,000 point scoring efforts and such. Please let me know if we miss any of that information. You can email me at andre@tnprephoops.com.
My intent is to post this list every Monday or Tuesday throughout the season.
Jalen Duke (MLK) has been a mainstay on our site since his freshman season. The rising senior has put together an outstanding final campaign that culminated this week as Duke etched his name in MLK folklore forever moving into the top spot as the schools all-time leading scorer currently standing at 1,685 points. Congrats to a fine young man.
Unheralded and hiding in the rural area between Chattanooga and Nashville you can find Riley Dempsey (Sequatchie County). The 6'8 senior post had himself a week worthy of recognition starting with a 33 point outing against South Pittsburgh then topping that with 35 against Hixson.
Brett Warner (Collierville) is certainly a fixture on the weekly scoring list. The rising senior guard must be applauded for his scoring exploits playing in one of the toughest district in the state in 15AAA. Warner had another big week dropping 38 as Collierville upset state ranked Southwind then closed strong with a 27 spot against Wooddale.
School records are meant to be broken is what we said past week as Jordan Bowden destroyed the school record with 54 points well Kelvin Jackson (Carter) thought he might take a crack at it himself. The senior guard came up short but not by much dropping 46 in a win over Union County.
Brady Nease (Union County) is putting the final touches on a sterling high school career. The risning senior marksman had a super week starting with a 34 point effort against Austin East before closing with 27 against Carter.
John Payne (Goodpasture) is staking his claim for a Mr. Basketball nomination here in the coming weeks. The senior wing has been scoring at an alarming clip including a 34 point dousing against Merroll Hyde followed by 28 large against Nashville Christian.
Middle Tennessee had a couple of players achieve the 1,000 point milestone this past week. Colt Nokes (Gordonsville) put his name in school folklore for ever surpassing the milestone and rising junior DeMarco Jackson (Lead Academy) puts name near the top of the all-time scoring lists at Lead Academy driving past the 1,000 point plateau with his 31 point effort against Merrol Hyde.
Ryan Beal (Pigeon Forge) has been a trouper this year. The rising senior wing has played through injury and has been the absolute focal point of every freak defense in the district yet he still managed to carve out an excellent week starting with 32 markers against Claiborne followed by 26 against Seymour.
Caleb Hayes (Anderson County) has been a stalwart for the Mavericks of Anderson County since his freshman season. The hard working senior was rewarded this past week slipping past the 1,000 point mark for his prep career.
