Two of Tennessee's finest took to the hardwood in Kentucky, as CPA and White Station battled with a host of teams from the Bluegrass state at the annual King of the Bluegrass Holiday Classic.
In opening round action, CPA bested Pleasure Ridge Park from Louisville 66-60 behind 19 points from Jake Allsmiller (CPA), 17 from Jalen Lindsey (CPA) and 15 from fellow sophomore Vic Wharton (CPA).
White Station got 18 points from Larry Spicer (White Station) and 16 from freshman Nych Smith (White Station) as the Spartans bested Dixie Heights 64-60 to advance to the second round of action. Leron Black (White Station) added 13 in the close victory.
Lindsey made his national presence known in Game #2 as the rising sophomore dropped 32 points helping the Lions of CPA slip past Orange Lutheran of California and highly ranked shooting guard Gabe York 70-64.
Joining Lindsey in the scoring column were Belmont signee Craig Bradshaw (CPA) and the dynamic Wharton who finished with 12 and 11 respectively.
With the victory the Lions will tangle with powerful Louisville Ballard at 9:00 this evening in the semi-finals.
White Station ran into the Ballard buzz saw late last night falling 80-68 to the Eastern powerhouse. Black was huge for the Spartans finishing with 29 points and 11 boards in the loss. Spicer added 14 and Smith finished with 12 in the loss.
The Spartans will tangle with Orange Lutheran of California in the 5th place bracket this afternoon.
