All across the state the play days are giving the squads and
their coaches a chance to see what they have in store for the coming year.
Over in Cornersville, for the second consecutive year, teams
from around their area will gather to do battle and get the first leg up on
their competition.
On Saturday, November 14th, come to Cornersville
and see:
One of last years Class A state representatives, Summertown.
Mr. Basketball finalist Wes Long is gone but Coach Trotter returns a bevy of
talented juniors including my man, Bubba
Clifton (Summertown), Eli Matthews (Summertown) and look for a ig year from
junior Jared Wright (Summertown).
Dray Mercer (Perry County)
leads his squad into action with a trio of tough games scheduled for
Saturday.
The host school Cornersville, lost a great deal to
graduation and will be young. Mike
Lovett (Cornersville) could be a breakout player for them, as could, Dillon Bean (Cornersville).
Wayne County could be making the trip shorthanded,
depending on the outcome of their football playoff game against Collinwood
tomorrow night, Tyler Rice (Wayne County)
is the top player for Wayne
County and the teams
quarterback.
I am excited about my first viewing of rising junior Kedren Johnson (Marshall County)
since injuries kept him out of much of the summer schedule. Johnson will
also welcome the talents of incoming freshman Kevin Peterson (Marshall Couonty), a talented point guard who can
take some of the playmaking burden from Johnson and let him score more
frequently.
Nashville Christian always a contender in their district and
region make the trip to the ‘ville featuring two solid scoring guard/wing
combos in Lee Dreaden (Nashville
Christian) and Dakota Priest (Nashville
Christian).
Cody Henegar (Marion County)
leads his squad and a move into the Class A ranks could mean some Mr.
Basketball talks for the UNC-Greenboro signee.
Also participating in the play day on Saturday are Forrest, Giles County,
Huntland, Aaron Academy
and Fairview.
I will be attending the play day as I did last year.
