Week #5 concluded the regular season with some big performances as the players get ready for Championship Sunday at Maryville College. Our goal this year was to take the top two teams but with the amount of no shows we decided to go with the top 20 players who attended at least 3 of the 5 scheduled games.
Villanova 96
Syracuse 85
Justus McMillan (Boyd Buchanan) dropped 29 points leading Villanova past a determined Syracuse squad 96-85. Kendrick Thompson (Cleveland) added 15 points in the victory.
Tristan Spradling (Meigs County) played his best game of the season scoring 28 points in the tough loss. Justin Ragsdale (Silverdale Academy) pitched in with 22. Blake Cook (McMinn Central) added 17 and Dalton Kepley (McMinn Central) finished with 13.
Alabama 101
Tennessee 99
Gregory Besley (East Ridge) scored 32 points as Alabama raised their record to 4-1 with a hard fought 101-99 victory over Tennessee.
Jervon Johnson (Ooltewah) and Lavontez Knight (Brainerd) each finished with 24 points in the victory.
D.J. Bowles (Notre Dame) led Tennessee with 27 markers, while Leo Born (Baylor) chipped in with 26. Lennom Sowell (Signal Mountain) played his best game of the season finishing with a season high 22 points.
Louisville 107
Connecticut 104
Jarod Rhodes (Cleveland) scored 19 as Louisville captured the West Division title with a tough 107-104 victory over Connecticut. Frank Brogdan (CSAS) chipped in with 12 in the victory.
Hunter Chastain (Bradley Central) took game scoring honors with 29 points in the loss. C.J. Reese (McCallie) added 16, Jerelle Wilson (Tyner Academy) tossed in 12 and Matt Whitmire (Bradley Central) and Tyler Peeler (Tellico Plains) added 10 point apiece in the close loss.
Marquette 104
Auburn 93
Jeremiah Nason (Boyd Buchanan) and Cameron Colverd (Bledsoe County) scored 17 and 12 points respectively leading Marquette to a 104-93 victory over Auburn.
Jamaal Calvin (McCallie) led all scorers with 33 points and his running mate Preston Russell (Tellico Plains) added 27 in the loss.
Vanderbilt 99
Florida 92
Alfonzo Cox (East Ridge) exploded for 36 points and Vanderbilt finished season unbeaten capturing the Eastern Division title with a 99-92 win over a scrappy Florida bunch.
Joining Cox in the scoring column, Bradley McCurdy (Cleveland) added 19, Steadman Ford (Notre Dame) chipped in with 15 points and a dozen dimes.
Cordell James (McCallie) led Florida with 26 points. Ronzell Robinson (Cleveland) added 15, Logan Cox (Bradley Central) pitched in 14, Taylor Bentley (Bradley Central) added 12 and finally Sam Gregory (Walker Valley) contributed 11.
