Sub-state Monday, could it get any better. Here are the previews from the games which will tip off tomorrow evening, plus a brief description of how they faired in the region final.
Knoxville West @ Dobyns-Bennett
The Indians received 24 points from Tyler Ailshee (Dobyns-Bennett) and 15 from Darrius Davis (Dobyns-Bennett) to lift them past Daniel Boone 76-72 in the Region 1AAA final. D.B. now welcomes a very talented Knoxville West squad fresh off a 55-51 loss to Bearden. Phillip Stanford (Knoxville West) led the Rebels with 24 in the loss.

Ty Greene (Bearden) dropped 20 points and helped the Bulldogs advance past Knoxville West 55-51 and host a sub-state game for the second year in a row. The Bulldogs welcome the Blazers after they fell in a close game 76-72 to Dobyns-Bennett. Travis Keever (Daniel Boone) scored 23 points to lead Boone.
Columbia Central @ Cleveland
The Blue Raiders raced through their regional tournament finishing off Ooltewah in the final 83-59 behind 27 points from senior guard Ish Sanders (Cleveland) and 20 from Marcus Davis (Cleveland). The Lions played tough but fell to a determined Siegel squad 60-52, Dominique Parks (Columbia Central) and James English (Columbia Central) each finished with 14 points.
Ooltewah @ Siegel
Stephen Hurt (Siegel) and Marc Gooch (Siegel) finished with 11 and Kerry Hammonds (Siegel) and Janeal McDonald (Siegel) added 10 each for the balanced Stars scoring in their region final victory over Columbia Central. The Owls will play in a sub-state game for the first time in 30 years after they fell in the region final to Cleveland. Jervon Johnson (Ooltewah) finished with 13 for the Owls in the loss.
McGavock @ Clarksville Northeast
The Eagles slipped past a very good Beech squad to capture the region crown 59-56 behind 16 points from senior point Telvin James (Clarksville Northeast). The Eagles now welcome the surprising Raiders of McGavock over to Clarksville after they fell to Hunter's Lane 68-60.
Beech @ Hunter's Lane
This has the makings of one of the best sub-state games on the agenda for Monday. The Warriors swam past McGavock 68-60 in the region final getting 19 points from DeMarco Starling (Hunter's Lane). Beech is looking for a return to the state tourney after falling in their region contest 59-56 despite 19 points from senior forward John Taylor (Beech) and 16 from point guard Reece Chamberlain (Beech).
White Station @ Dyer County
The Choctaws welcome the defending Class AAA champions into their raucous gym for a big time sub-state clash on Monday night with the ultimate prize squarely on the line. Dyer County was at its best finishing off district rival Jackson Northside 79-74 in the region final getting excessively balanced scoring including 13 each for Cedarious Taylor (Dyer County) and Robert Hubbs (Dyer County) 12 from Cedric Janes (Dyer County) and finally 11 for John Hudson (Dyer County). The Spartans fell in a big way to Melrose in the region finale 83-60 and will be primed for a return trip to Murfreesboro.
Jackson Northside @ Melrose
The Golden Wildcats made a big statement in their 83-60 region final win over White Station. "Mighty" Chris Jones (Melrose) wrangled the nets for 42 large while teammates Adonis Thomas (Melrose) and Nate Rucker (Melrose) added 13 and 10 respectively. Mr. Basketball finalist Casey Prather (Jackson Northside) scored 29 points but his Indians fell to Dyer County in the region finale.
