Sub-State Monday tips off tomorrow with your reward a trip to the ‘boro for a chance to bring home the Gold Ball. Very cool.

The following is a preview of the sub-state contest and how they faired in their region final game.

Cloudland @ Harriman

Unusual circumstances as both winners in East Tennessee must travel for their sub-state contest including Cloudland which bested Hampton in Region 1A championship 69-60 behind 24 points from Logan Morgan (Cloudland). Harriman fell to Oliver Springs in their region championship game despite 11 points from Dominique Inman (Harriman).

Oliver Springs @ Hampton

Wesley Rather (Oliver Springs) dropped 28 points as the boys from the O.S. defeated Harriman in the Region 2A championship contest. The Bobcats are accustomed to the travel and will be more than prepared as they meet a very good Hampton squad on their home floor. Hampton, despite 20 points from Dylan Ward (Hampton) and 19 points from Nathaniel Hughes (Hampton), fell to Cloudland in their championship contest.

Red Boiling Springs @ CSAS

Alex Stallion (CSAS) scored 19 points and garnered MVP honors as the Patriots defeated Grace Baptist 73-65 to capture the Region 3A championship and get their sub-state game on friendly ground. Shariff Cobb (CSAS) also scored 19 for CSAS. The Patriots welcome the talented duo of Wes Grace (Red Boiling Springs) and Jake Stiles (Red Boiling Springs) into their lair after they fell to a determined Friendship Christian squad 53-48 in the Region 4A final. Grace and Stiles both netted 15 points for RBS.

Grace Baptist @ Friendship Christian

The Commanders received 18 markers from Parker Teeter (Friendship Christian) and slipped past Red Boiling Springs to get their home contest against the Golden Eagles. Grace Baptist fell to CSAS despite 31 points from Brandon Herman (Grace Baptist).

Summertown @ Clarksville Academy

Mr. Basketball finalist Malcolm Smith (Clarksville Academy) continued his domination of Class A scoring 30 points and leading his Cougars past McEwen 46-42. The win sets up a big time sub-state match-up with perennial Class A power Summertown, who fell to Wayne County despite 27 points from junior guard Bubba Clifton (Summertown).

McEwen @ Wayne County

Tyler Rice (Wayne County) dropped 21 points leading the Wildcats of Wayne County past Summertown and directly into the path of the Warriors of McEwen. Garrett Mullinicks (McEwen) led the Warriors in their region final loss to Clarksville Academy with 13.

City University @ Humboldt

Seems like old times with Humboldt capturing the Region 7A championship with a big 89-61 victory over Union City. Tevin Bryson (Humboldt) led the Vikings with 29 points. Joining Bryson in the scoring column were Quan Campbell (Humboldt) with 22 and senior Darren Dunbar (Humboldt) with 13. City University fell to Westwood in the Region 8A finale receiving 14 points from Kevin Pratt (City University).

Union City @ Westwood

The Longhorns positioned themselves with a sub-state home game defeating City University 61-49 behind 23 points from David Pledge (Westwood) and 16 from Jarvis Sullivan (Westwood). Union City has surprised many folks still being alive at this juncture yet one of the state's traditionally top programs never doubted it for a minute. Josh Battee (Union City) led the Golden Tornadoes with 23 points in their loss to Humboldt.
