Cherokee Shocks Craigmont at 29th Arby’s Classic

The 29th annual Arby's Classic tipped off on Tuesday with a bang as the defending Class AAA state champion Craigmont Chiefs fell in their opening round game to Cherokee 51-47.

 

Ty Ryans (Cherokee) led the way with 20 points including five threes and King College signee James Scales (Cherokee) added 11 points and came up with a gigantic steal in the waning moments and converted two foul shots to give Cherokee the stunning upset victory.

 

Cherokee will face Charlotte Christian tomorrow in quarter-final action.

 

CPA got their Arby's experience off and rolling destroying Tennessee High 72-35 behind 21 points from sophomore Jake Allsmiller (CPA).

Belmont signee Craig Bradshaw (CPA) and national rising sophomore superstar Jalen Lindsey (CPA) added 18 and 15 respectively in the victory.

 

CPA will tangle with Ursrpring, Germany in quarter-final action tomorrow.

 

Tyleke Love (Dobyns-Bennett) dropped 18 points as the Indians slipped past Irmo, S.C. 68-62 and advanced to a Thursday night showdown with the powerful Christ School.

 

Other Tennessee teams in the field saw Sullivan East falling to Charlotte Christian 43-42. Tabernacle from the Grand Bahamas defeated Greeneville 58-34. Urpsring, Germany bested Sevier County despite 23 points from junior guard Devin Schmidt (Sevier County). Schmidt then responded with 18 additional points as the Smokey Bears eliminated Greeneville from the tournament.
