Chattanooga Elite 16 and under marched into the DII AAU National Tournament with something to prove.
By my calculations they did just that.
Led by 20 markers from Ryan Montgomery (Chattanooga Central) and 18 from Devonte Jones (Tyner Academy) the Elite overcame a 13 point deficit and pushed past the Wellington Wolves to the final margin of 71-61 to bring home the shiny trophy as the DII AAU 16U National Champions.
Patrick Good (David Crockett) added 14 points and 6 assists in the title game for Chattanooga.
The Elite trudged through pool play unblemished at 3-0 then disposed of Nike Team Florida 62-52 in the round of 16.
The Columbia Stars from South Carolina felt the Chattanooga steam engine rolling over them as the Elite moved into the final four with a 76-57 win.
Team New York got the smack down in the semi-finals to the tune of 80-57 before the title game clash.
Montgomery led the team in scoring throughout the event averaging 16 per game while Good was close on his heels at 15 per contest along with almost 5 assists per game as well.
Jones had another monster event and finished averaging around 13 per contest.
Devonta Ross (Ooltewah) was acknowledged for his tremendous efforts on the defensive end of the floor. His effort was crucial to the Elite taking the crown.
Coaches were also quick to mention the contributions of Malik Beavers (Red Bank) ad Peyton Parker (Bradley Central).
A great stepping stone for a burgeoning program that is doing things the right way. Congrats to the Chattanooga Elite on their efforts and for bringing home the title.
