The Eagles of Carson Newman got off to an early recruiting start inking two Tennessee high school hoop stars as part of the 2014 class.

Mason Bates (Cookeville) made quite the impression on the staff at the Tennessee Prep Hoops Exposure Showcase last month. The 6'4 shooting guard was at his best the entire day and caught the eye of the Eagle staff; as well as, other college coaches in attendance. (See guys it pays to come to the showcase!!!)

Bates, who transferred to Cookeville from Cheatham County for his senior season, will be a welcome addition to Coach Chuck Benson and the Eagles next fall.

The Eagles are a member of the South Atlantic Conference and play in NCAA DII.

The Eagles are currently ranked in the top 25 of the national DII poll.

Staying with the Eagles, Coach Benson did not have to venture far to grab his second recruit as Taylor Hawkins (Sequoyah) will become a member of the Class of 2014 next fall.

Hawkins is a 6'3 combo who can score inside or out and is a hard working young man with a major upside.
