Buzzer Beaters, Overtime and Close Games Highlight Week #2 of the Rocky Top Fall League

What a super week of action. We had a buzzer beater, a three to send a game into overtime and six close games for an exciting Week #2 at the Rocky Top Fall League. Here is the game by game action.

Last weeks Tennessee Prep Hoops Radio Player of the Week, Geevontay Gee (Oak Ridge) scored 16 including three late buckets to open up a very tight ball game moving Team Steinmetz to 2-0 with a 61-53 win over Team Watts.

Maverick Smith (Oakdale) also chipped in 16 markers while Thomas Carroll (Wartburg Central) added 10.

Luke Smith (Knoxville Catholic) led Team Watts with 12. Joining him in the scoring with 8 were Davari Reeder (Knoxville Catholic), Bryce Jackson (Loudon) and Dawson Anderson (Knoxville Catholic).

Team Steinmetz puts their 2-0 mark on the line this week in Alcoa against Team Garman (1-1) while Team Watts looks to bounce back as they welcome Team Jones (2-0) to the Tornado pit.

 

Team Garman 70

Team Morgan 65

Alex Humphrey (Maryville) drained a deep three at the buzzer to force overtime where Team Garman pulled away for their first win of the season, a 70-65 triumph over Team Morgan.

Chase Cerny (CAK) had the hot hand early scoring 17 in the first half and finishing with a game high 26 markers. Miles Thomas (South Doyle) finished with 11 despite arriving late but had the defensive stop that led to the game tying shot by Humphrey, who incidentally finished with 10 points.

Justin Barnett (Sevier County) led Team Morgan with 18 followed closely by Noah Amet (Pigeon Forge) and Jeremiah Maples (Gatlinburg-Pittman) with 11 points each.

Team Garman takes a big step this Saturday as they will tangle with the only unbeaten squad in the Watson Division Team Upchurch (2-0).

Team Morgan (0-2) welcomes Team Sexton (1-1).

Luke Trotter (Knoxville Webb) and Connor Arnold (Grace Christian) scored 11 and 10 points respectively as Team Sexton notched their first win of the season with a low scoring but highly energetic victory to the tune of 49-42 over Team Lane.

E.J. Bush (Oak Ridge) led all scorers with 18 in the loss. Tajoin Jones (Oak Ridge) added 11.

Team Sexton (1-1) battles Team Morgan (0-2) this Saturday at Alcoa while Team Lane (1-1) gets a big test with Team Feltner (1-1).

 

Team Matthews 40

 Cameron Hayes (Cookeville) drained a runner in the lane for the game winner as Team Matthews notched their first win of the season with a 40-39 win over Team Morton.

Hayes also led the game scoring with 12 markers for Team Matthews, who put their 1-1 mark on the deck this Saturday at Alcoa against Team Sharp (0-2).

David Henson (Hardin Valley) led Team Morton with 11 markers in the loss. Team Morton (0-2) battles Team Steinmetz (2-0) on Saturday.

 

Team Jones 59

 Kenny Bunton (Walker Valley) played big man on campus dropping 25 points and grabbing double digit boards as Team Jones held on tight to pull out a 59-58 win over Team Sharp. Bunton, Lipscomb signee, was fantastic throughout the day getting key buckets for the unbeaten Team Jones squad.

James McRee (Cleveland) had a big game as well getting himself a double/double with 12 points and 11 boards.

Tyler Mullins (Gibbs) led Team Sharp with 15 while Bryson Newman (Knoxville Halls) added 11 in the narrow loss.

Team Jones puts their unblemished record on the line this Saturday at Alcoa against Team Watts (1-1). Team Sharp looks to get that first notch as they welcome Team Matthews (1-1).

 

Team Upchurch 77

Team Feltner 71

Easton Upchurch (Maryville) scored 16 as Team Upchurch came from behind to grab the win over fellow Watson Division foe Team Feltner 77-71 despite 28 from Seth Lenard (Sweetwater).

Joining Upchurch in the scoring column Blake Ervin (Heritage) added 14 and Garrett Anderson (Alcoa) finished with 10.

Assisting Lenard, John Fulkerson (North Carolina) pushed in 13 and Brenden Coleman (David Crockett) added 11.

Team Upchurch puts their division leading 2-0 mark on the line this Saturday at Alcoa against surging Team Garman. Team Feltner looks to bounce back as they tangle with Team Lane (1-1).
