BTW and Brainerd Bounce to the Semi-Finals

Day two got underway with a couple of AA games that gave us more than we bargained for.

BTW 76

Carter 68

Travis Bridges netted 18 points and freshman Martavious Newby added 17 as the Warriors overcame a once in a lifetime performance from Carter sophomore sensation Lester Wilson to hold onto a 76-68 victory in the AA opener on Thursday.

The BTW guards were huge on the scoreboard and their ability to grab long rebounds proved to be the difference in this tight contest. Senior Larry McGaughey pitched in 15 and junior LaCorwyn Anthony added 14 for the Warriors.

Wilson was simply a man among boys finishing with 27 points and grabbing a game high 17 boards. His effort; as well as, that of Carson Newman signee Joe Meady, who would finish with 11, were enough to keep Carter in the ball game deep into the fourth quarter.

BTW will tangle with Brainerd on Friday afternoon.

Brainerd 70

Lipscomb 60

A furious Lipsomcb comeback was thwarted late by the play of senior Fred Sturdivant as he lead his Panthers to a 70-60 victory in the finale for the Class of AA.

Sturdivant was simply a stud. The 6'6 senior finished with 26 markers, grabbed 16 boards, blocked 5 shots and found time to dish out 4 dimes and was seen selling popcorn and cokes at halftime.

Junior guard Anthony Broome chipped in with 17 for the Panthers.

Lipscomb was as usual very balanced in their scoring led by junior Carter Sanderson with 18, Caleb Simpson added 16 and Blake Bell finished with 11 for the Mustangs.
